It looks like UFC Fight Night 81 has the potential to be a pretty monumental evening, as now Eddie Alvarez is reporting that he’s fighting Anthony Pettis at the January 17th event. Just recently the UFC announced that bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw will take on Dominick Cruz on that card.

The event is going to take place in Boston, however, a venue for the card hasn’t been locked down. The UFC hasn’t announced officially announced the Alvarez-Pettis fight, but the accomplished lightweight has tweeted out the following:

This tweet came after Alvarez tweeted out this (if you don’t like curse words flee the page):

So, there you have it. Alvarez will be looking to build on his gritty and determined, split decision win over Gilbert Melendez in June. Pettis, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since March when he lost the lightweight title to Rafael dos Anjos via decision. “Showtime” is currently ranked as the #1 contender, while the former Bellator champ Alvarez is sitting in the #4 spot.

So, this is a huge fight for both men. If Pettis wants to get a crack at winning the belt back in 2016, he’ll likely need a win. For Alvarez, this a huge opportunity to take step forward in the title shot hunt, following his decision loss to Donald Cerrone last year.
