Nick Diaz Announced for January 30 Strikeforce Event in Florida
Strikeforce announced on Friday that welterweight Nick Diaz will return to action at the promotion’s January 30 event in Sunrise, Florida, which also features the MMA debut of Herschel Walker and Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.
Though Diaz’s opponent for the Showtime-televised card was not announced, KJ Noons and Jay Hieron are both expected to fight on the card and either could be tapped to face Diaz.
Diaz (20-7) has won five-straight since suffering a controversial loss to Noons in late-2007, including wins over Frank Shamrock in April and Scott Smith in his most-recent fight in June.

They need to make this Noons after all of this talk on both sides.
Not sure if they’ll do it right away, but I’m expecting that fight to be booked at some point. Noons hasn’t fought MMA in a while and may need/get a warm up before Diaz.
That’ll be the difference between Strikeforce and eXC then. XC would have just tossed Noons in to try and get Diaz the belt. Again.
I wonder if Strikeforce is going to create a diazweight championship like eXC tried to?
HAHAHHA NICK DIAZ REIGNS SUPREME AGAIN! I hope they give him Noons, I really want to see Nick motivated to beat someone up like he did Shamrock.
Man im surprised that strikeforce didnt let him go after the last fiasco. i know that dana would have. Im over Nick, and IMO he should stay in Japan where he can smoke all the weed and do all the roids that he wants.
cause stoners do roids.
Nick doesnt do steriods!
I almost think that from now on intead of identifying Diaz as a welterweight fighter, he should be a “welterweight-ish” fighter…
I still say we dub him a diazweight fighter.
I struggled with what weight class to list in the post. Was tempted to go with “former lightweight who’s basically a welterweight but dabbles at near-middleweight catchweights”.
LOL, Kris.
Nothing wrong with a little weed. Anyone think Nick will ever be a part of the UFC again?
Except that it’s both illegal to possess in the US, and on the list of banned substances for combat sports…. but besides those two small details… eesh.
And as far as Nick being a part of the UFC again, not likely. Remember, he’s the one that walked away from them in the first place.
oh yeah!
This is great news. I am the complete opposite of a Nick Diaz fan, but I will admit I am psyched to see him fight in January. He has some great talent, and he is one of the best in Strikeforce.
I agree with many of you that they need to throw Noons in there with him. That would be an awesome fight, and it should draw some good attention, especially from hardcore MMA fans.
Hopefully he shows up motivated. I dont want to see Diaz fight if he isnt going to be completely prepared. If he is 100%, motivated, and not stoned (just threw that in there for kicks and giggs), then I think he could beat Heiron and Noons IMO.
I want to see Diaz vs. Zaromskis.
A few things to think about.
1. Nick has the legal right to posses marijuana in the state of CA. Remember he has a medicinal permit.
2. Strike force switched Nicks last opponent on him last minute. Nick did not agree to that matchup. Thats why there are contracts. Nick didnt break his, Stikeforce did. And Strike Force went public to say that Nick did not fight because of drug test issues…100% false. But how easily we believe Strikeforce’s press releases. All the media did and ran with it without one single quote from Nick.
Fighters are merely cash cows for promoters but you have to play by their rules. You , as a fighter cant change the rules, but they can and will even if they screw you, as a fighter, in the process.
Things like that should make you think objectively about what you read. And the UFC thing was worse. But Nick deals with that BS pretty well.
