The UFC opened its first UFC Gym last week in Concord, California, the first of “300 to 400″ family-oriented facilities which UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta says the promotion plans to open in the next five years.
“This was the natural evolution for our brand. UFC revolutionized traditional martial arts. It’s a perfect fit to us to expand into the fitness area,” Fertitta recently told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We’re not looking to train or create fighters. We’re looking to create a fun family environment.”
New gyms will reportedly open in 2010 in Hawaii, Montreal, and elsewhere in California.

Uh-oh other gyms like Gold, Balley’s and 24 hour fitness with fold and their membership contracts will be bought out by the UFC.
you guys smell that? …..smells like lots of $$
I just hope they do business in an ethical manner, unlike some gyms.
How do u mean unlike some gyms? Just curious, from a small sheltered area.
A gym chain around here, purchased another chain, then didn’t honor some of the old contracts and/or closed locations and wouldn’t offer refunds, etc. Eventually the chain went out of business and a lot of people lost money as a result. In addition some gyms require a multi-year contract that automatically re-ups with no refunds to go to the gym at all.
I wouldn’t worry about the other gyms being bought out. Our gym is not anywhere near designed like any of those other brands. We offer more by far, we also killed it in presale which shows that the rest of the gym buisness is out dated, prehistoric. We bring MMA, Crossfit, bodybuilding, etc under one roof. ALso most gyms are dying because they’re training is watered down, and lacks value, when you give everything away for free, you lose value in your product.
I gotcha thanx for the explanation
I think this is a terrible idea… I dont think they will make much money as the gym business is a tough business to be in… and there are already lots of competition..golds. 24 hour….ballys….etc…..tons of local gyms…etc…
In this economy its going to be quite a while before the UFC even gets to 100 gyms, let alone “300 to 400″…
I can only imagine how man of those will end up in the states tho. not sure how they are going to staff their gyms against teams that already have their own top leadership.
wouldnt it be almost ironic if Dana tried to force all the UFC gym guys into signing a video game contract and then cut them after they refused?
So a UFC gym beside every Starbucks?
Seems they’re getting a little ahead of themselves.
Don’t kid yourselfs people.
This idea is brilliant. I myself never wish to fight inside of the octagon but have started training. This is because I work a day job and cannot afford to be beat up all the time and still do my job.
On the other hand I really enjoy all parts of MMA and still want to learn all the aspects not just by watching, but participating myself. The fact they want this to be family orentated also shows me that they know that most of the people are 18-30 males who will eventually have children. I myself would put my child in a gym like this because i think martial arts teach people how to respect themselves and others even more so than other sports. I also think this is a great way to keep in shape. With women like Gina Corano and Kim Couture looking as fine as they do i’m sure women will be getting the hint that this is a good way to get and shape while learning how to kick some ass.
Don’t kid yourselves people these guys are genious.
