Today Mark Cuban announced his own MMA promotion which will air on HDNet appropriately titled “HDNet Fights”. The promotion’s first event will take place Saturday, October 13th in Dallas.
The event will be headlined by a main event bout between Eric Paulson and Jeff Ford. The 10 fight card also includes UFC veterans Sean Salmon, Pete Spratt, Justin Eilers, and Sammy Morgan.
The promotion, which has diversified itself from the UFC by signing low to mid-level fighters to non-exclusive contracts, will combine with other MMA promotions to fill the network with MMA programming.

an alternate headline for this post could be:
Former UFC Washouts on Debut Card of HDNet Fights
True, but everyone has to lose sometimes so they are veterans despite their lack of success in the UFC.
i dont know about this, but i hope it gives the ufc some competition because the ufc is going to take over and turn in to boxing
I think Sean Salmon could still one day fight in the UFC, especially if he drops down to Middleweight. He could be a good fighter at Middleweight. Him and Bisping fighting each other could be a little interesting.
I think Sean could come back into the UFC eventually as well but it would have the be at 185. His HDNet fight is a middleweight fight. He also has a fight on the 22nd (I believe) in Finland at Fight Festival. I'm not sure what weight that bout is at.
Salmon-Bisping is a long shot simply because Salmon has 2 UFC losses (although they did come at 205). Bisping will probably face someone who has won in the UFC but is in a downturn in their career (like Sinosic). They want a name people know with as little risk of a loss as possible should be move down in weight. I would like to see a matchup between them but I don't see it happening.
Salmon will always be known as the guy who got kicked. haha. In my head at least
I'll give almost any mma show a chance. Even though they don't have "name" fighters as long as they put on a good show with a couple of good fights they should be fine.I'm sure Salmon will be back. Not the same talent level but Sobral got head kicked and came back.
This is great news. Bisping will have an organization to go to after he gets his face pounded to jelly by real competition.
"…..but i hope it gives the ufc some competition because the ufc is going to take over and turn in to boxing……."
You've got it backwards. Boxing is dying because it has too much competition, WBA, WBO, IBO, ect, ect. The amount of belts is rediculous, and worst of all, it confuses things like finding out who the "true" champion. The UFC is trying to model itself after MLB, NBA, NFL.
One single MMA entity that has the most money to guarantee the best talent which equals the best fights on the planet.
Of course you need the feeder leagues, but they should stay at that, feeders. This woud mean that the UFC belt is just like the MLB & NFL championship trophies & rings; they mean more than anything in each particular sport.
MLB = Baseball
NHL = Hockey
NFL = Football
NBA = Basketball
UFC = Mixed Martial Arts.
Get it now?
As for Salmon, I may or may not be related to one of the judges who scored his bout at an XFO event that took place in August, but report is, it was the most boring fight of the night, and they only scored the fight for Salmon because someone needed to win, and Salmon was laying on top.
His performance was pathetic, however, it was at 190, a catch-weight fight. Either way, Salmon only gets pub because of the certain website that sponsors him. He has no real future in the UFC.

i’m good with any and all organizations… i firmly beleive that good match-ups make the best fights and if you can pair up two fighters with some background and skill, regardless of their level… i’ll watch!
The comment about boxing having to much compitition is a little inacurate. The reason for boxings dimise{sp) is mainly due to its creation of new belts for non-deserving fighters and failure to unify the belts to create one #1 fighter. I really enjoy any MMA match as long as the fighters are evenly matched. That is another problem with boxing. They sponge the top ten contenders list with uneven competition to protect the promoters investment in their fighter. If the UFC can steer clear of doing this, and create an actual top ten that fights for #1 and their title shot, then boxing will become extinct, and the UFC will last a very long time.
Thats all true Scotchy…also the image of boxing is horrible. Everyone knows its full of scandal. I dont think it would take much to pay someone to throw a fight. I miss boxing in the 80s and early 90s. I miss Dynamite Kid ,or Iron Mike Tyson….as screwed up as the guy is…boxing would have been dead many years ago if it wasnt for Tyson. Tyson is also the way he is because of boxing….he was not a smart man, just a good fighter, and boxing took advantage of that like they do with most boxers. Most of the top UFC fighters have a pretty strong head on their shoulders and they should ALL THANK BOXING! The reason being…..simply put, you learn from others mistakes.
Right on Fix, except Tyson had serious issues before his popularity. One of my favorite stories is from Teddy Atlas(one of the only people who I would trust in boxing anymore) about when he was one of Tyson’s trainers. Apparently Atlas took Tyson to his 12 or 13 year old niece’s birthday party. Tyson got caught fondeling(sp) Atlas’s niece, and Atlas took Tyson outside with a gun to his head and fired it off next to Tyson’s head. He told him he was an animal, and to stay the F@#! away from his familly, and stopped trainning him. One of Tyson’s biggest mistakes. He could have been the greatest. I too miss the good days of boxing. I love the old Tommy Herns, Hagler, Lenord, Ali, Frazier, and all the classic(and classy) fighters. Hopefully MMA will carry the torch for a long time. Most of the MMA fighters are also more educated than the boxers ever were. Maybe it will help.
