Joseph Benavidez his next hurdle set, in his hunt for another title shot, as the flyweight contender has been booked to fight Ali Bagautinov on October 3rd. The bout will be part of UFC 192, which will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Benavidez (22-4) will be fighting for the first time since he decisioned John Moraga, which followed victories over Dustin Ortiz and Timothy Elliott. The only man who has defeated Benavidez since 2010 is champion Demetrious Johnson. Benavidez is currently ranked #2.
The reason you haven’t heard Bagautinov’s name in a while is because he’s been out of action due to suspension. The flyweight failed his post-fight drug test last June, after he was decisioned by Johnson.
So, that’s an interesting addition to UFC 192, and it’s an important bout for both men. The UFC has also announced that Rose Namajunas (2-2) will face Angela Hill (2-1) at the October 3rd card.
Light-Heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier is scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson in the headliner.
