Cote Calls Out Leben-Martin Winner for December 29th Showdown

Patrick Cote, who just defeated Kendall Grove at UFC 74 just weeks ago, is already looking ahead to his next bout. Cote called out Chris Leben and Terry Martin in a recent article by The Fight Network and is looking to face the winner of the UFC Fight Night 11 bout at UFC 79 in December:

“I just want to prove to everybody that I was robbed last time [against Leben]. I will not leave the fight in the judge’s hands next time.

I just don’t like [Terry Martin]. He has a big mouth. Terry Martin has said he’s the next big thing at 185 and that he will be champion. He thinks he has heavy hands because he knocked out Jorge Rivera. But if you watch that fight, you see Rivera was already off balance and he caught him. [Martin's] a one-dimensional fighter. He doesn’t shoot for the leg; he tries to trap you against the cage. I can use my reach against him, and I have good footwork and hands. It will be a long night for him if he wants to try and trap me against the cage.

If they [the UFC] put me on the New Year Eve’s show on December 29, I will be very happy. That will be four months from my last fight, so it will be good. If not, it will be maybe six months and that’s a very long time to stay off.”

Cote fighting the winner sounds pretty good.  The fight he has with Leben was very good and I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.  Cote is for real, but I wonder what is next for Grove?  How about a rematch with Herman?

  • robmx23 says:

Sorry, Cote, but if you are granted a match with Terry Martin, you'll likely end up unconscious.  That's just the way it is buddy.

I hope Leben gets KOed. I have been wondering who the most overated fighter in the UFC is, and I vote Leban. I know everyone is going to say Bisbing. I din't want to see Leban again after this fight. His punches are sloppy, his ground game non-existing. Boring fighter. And after every fight he acts like he is the most explosive fighter in the world. most overated-Leban
                         biggest douchbag-Bisbing

One of the coolest things I've ever seen is Leben gettin KTFO by Anderson Silva. People who talk so much s*** and then get man-handeled should learn to shut the f*** up! Go away Red, you'll never be a champ.

I think Leben is on his last fight in the UFC unless he can beat Martin. He's just lost to many recently to really be considered as anything more than an average fighter. He needs to go to another organization (ICON) take down a few cans and a couple mid-tier guys then come back and work himself in at the UFC again. He'll stick around if he beats Martin but it's a definite must win.

I think Cote is underrated but I wouldn't mind putting Leben vs. Cote on the Dec. 29th card or even the TUF 6 finale a few weeks earlier. I think given the draw Leben has on Spike TUF 6 makes the most sense.

  • FixXer says:

I think Cote is underrated too.  Leben is pretty overrated as well.  I know a few months back he was threatening leaving the UFC because of pay……kinda sad when your not that good.  I wish he would left then, but i do enjoy watching him gettin his ass whooped.  Martin has a lot on his plate outside the cage….so it might be a closer fight than we think if that isnt cleared up by then.

  • Thomas says:

If Martin destroys Leban he will get the next title shot in a week Middleweight division. Cote has had bad luck in the UFC but he needs a few more wins before he should start calling people out

  • Red says:

A Martin vs. Silva fight? I’s watch it, but I think it would be a replay of Leben vs. Silva because Silva fight end that fight very quickly against Martin.

  • SCOTCHYDOW says:

If Cote’ gets the winner of the Martin/Leban fight, and wins, I think he should get a title shot. I think a Cote’/Silva(I am just assuming Silva beats Franklin) match would be one of the best match ups in the divison. Come to think of it, Cote’ vs anyone in that divison would be a good one. He really brings it when he steps in the octagon.
