Yes, since Aldo pulled out of UFC 189 due to a rib injury, and McGregor took out Chad Mendes, the MMA world has been waiting to hear when the all-star bout will take place. The consensus seems to be that the fight will go down before the year is out, likely in December.
Well, recently the featherweight champ held a Q&A session with fans in Rio de Janeiro, and while discussing his injury, Aldo stated the following (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“My rib is fine, I returned to training now,” Aldo said. “I’m just waiting for them to book the fight so we can fight on the same night as Werdum. I hope we’re there together.”
That’s interesting to hear, as Fabricio Werdum also said recently he wants to fight on the same card as his fellow Brazilian. Having the heavyweight and featherweight belt up for grabs on the same card, say in Cowboys Stadium, sounds pretty sweet no?
Aldo was also asked to weigh-in on McGregor’s win over Mendes, who the champ has defeated twice before. The Nova Uniao fighter stated:
“It was exactly what we already expected,” Aldo said. “If you book this fight today, we’ll beat him. The strategy was already set. We trained for him once and we saw that our strategy would work with his fight against Mendes. We have the most logical way to win and we try to improve every time more.”
How about that huh? It will be interesting to hear what McGregor has to say about that. Here’s hoping Aldo-McGregor goes down sooner than later.
