Conor McGregor Talks Ronda Rousey, Says Fellow Champ Would “Throw me on my Head”

Conor McGregor has verbally bashed several of the UFC’s top fighters, but in the case of Ronda Rousey, “Notorious” has nothing but praise.

Recently the featherweight star spoke with Sports Illustrated, following McGregor’s interim championship victory over Chad Mendes last month. While doing so, the outspoken fighter was asked about Rousey, who of course, will face Bethe Correia tonight at UFC 190.

Here is some of what McGregor had to say about the bantamweight champion (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“I swear on my life her back muscles were the most solid back muscles I’d ever felt in my life,’ said McGregor ‘I thought if this lady was to get a hold of me, she would throw me on my head in literally one second flat.”

“So I would not like to engage in a clinch fight with Ronda.”

As many, many people have discovered over the years, that would not be wise. It’s interesting to hear McGregor talk about Rousey of course, as it wasn’t long ago when the latter was considered to be the fastest rising star in the sport. After all, the Judoka was largely responsible, if not entirely, for the UFC’s decision to start promoting women’s fights.

“Ronda is certainly an absolute animal, and she is a special individual,’ added McGregor. ‘Two-time ESPYS winner, undefeated champion, dominant, finishes all opponents, movie star. I mean Ronda is unbelievable.”

There’s no question that Rousey has become a massive, massive draw, both in and out of the cage. After she takes on Correia, Rousey will head out to act in a new Mark Wahlberg flick. Not too many fighters can say that.

Rousey-Corrreia will headline UFC 190, which will take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
