Renzo Gracie Will Not Debut Against Matt Hughes

A matchup between Renzo Gracie and Matt Hughes, for Gracie’s UFC ebut which was previously rumored for UFC 109 and then later reported as possibly postponed will not be taking place. Instead Gracie will face a different, as yet unnamed opponent, at an as yet unnamed time for his promotional debut, according to a report by bumpyknuckle that was linked to on Gracie’s Twitter page.
Though Gracie is no longer expected to make his UFC debut against Hughes, the bout is still a possibility for a future contest.
At this time there are no reports to indicate that Matt Hughes is scheduled to face anyone anytime in the near future, with this match up now apparently postponed indefinitely.

Renzo Gracie is not that good IMO and as far as him being a “Legend”,…i’m not sold on that either.
Matt Hughes should have take a fight with Josh Koscheck and put a beating on him becasue a win over Koscheck would have been a big deal for him considering that koscheck is a “Contender” and all.
Matt Hughes will problably end up fighitng Mike Swick next.
I would prefer both Swick and Koscheck to **** off when it comes to fighting Hughes, mainly because they want the fight for all the wrong reasons, but I have to admit that I'd probably laugh myself into an asthma attack if Hughes beat either of them into incontinence in front of a national PPV audience.
I can almost hear Rogan and Goldie's call now:
Rogan:"no way, Matt Hughes is LITERALLY beating the sh!t out of Mike Swick [or Koscheck]"
Goldie:"well Joe, I guess thats why he's called the most defacating welterweight champion of all times"

I’m a fighter and know this sport well so appreciate the thanks man I think maynard is amazing to but serioulsy on this topic I was just saying hughes would beat kos and get beat by swick…………it sucks but I write the truth

Jcohl you know that I respect your knowledge and insight of MMA without a doubt. But the fact that you think Hughes would dominate Kos is unbelievable.(you to swank) now everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but how someone sees that outcome is beyond me. If the fight stays standing hughes would get KOed for sure not a doubt in my mind there. Subs wise id give the edge to Hughes but if GSP and all his awesomeness couldnt finish that kimura on Kos, than I dont see Matt getting it. As for wrestling sure Hughes is more seasoned but hes not as good as Kos and not as explosive either. Matt had trouble taking Alves down so I realy dont see him taking Josh down at will. He11 even Serra stuffed one of Hughes shots.
And as for the whole thing with AKA calling out Hughes. Ya its a b1tch move but you now what I dont like how Hughes is getting handled right now. If he wants to fight then he should be fighting the best fighters in the world. Liddell at 39 was still asking for top competition and wanted nothing to do with fighting cans. Randy came out of retirement to challege for the HW title and then fought a string of top 10 heavyweights at age 43-46.
Even Coleman at age 44 came back to the UFC and got fed to Rua, who everyone thought was gonna burry the Hammer. And even signed to fight Tito, who is the same fighter as him but younger and stronger. The same can even be said about Trigg at age 37, who said hed only come back to the UFC to fight top competition. Gracie came back at age 39 to fight Hughes when Matt was in his Prime but for some reason Matt cant fight top competition. If your in the UFC you should be fighting the best guys you possibly can.
Ive got a ton of respect for Hughes and even joked with him when I met him here in winnipeg. Ive stated many times in the forums that his second fight against Trigg is my personal fave. The guys a guaranteed future HOF, who has nothing to prove but He IMO should take Swick up on his offer since Mike’s gonna need an opponent anyways and see if he still has some left to beat one of the top ten WW in the world. Just like Hall of Famers Randy Chuck and Coleman consistently do.
All this is directed more so at the UFC and his managers than Hughes himself seeing as how hes offered to fight Anderson at 185 and showed that “He” is intrerested in fighting the best. Now the big boys need to make it happen.

I have read your posts for months now and reapect what u say as well my friend….that being said hughes vs kos would be like randy vs vera…..matt would be able to utilize his wrestling and strength against kos….against swick it hurts me to say but I think Matt would get knocked out…and that sucks but that is reality of the fight game…But I respect what u r saying
Thanks dude. But to be completely honest I think your judgement on this issue is a little clouded do to the fact that Hughes is likely your favorate fighter. Or maybe im just off on that one.
Either way im guilty of it too when it comes to Maynard, and thinking he could beat anyone, but in reality he would likely lose to Penn just like everyone else.
@ carls – I think there has been some misunderstanding here, my friend.
I’m not saying that I ACTUALLY THINK Matt Hughes would dominate Josh Koscheck, I was saying that I WOULD LIKE TO SEE Matt Hughes kick the living sh!t out him, however at this stage of both of their careers I see that outcome as highly unlikely.

For my respect for Hughes I hope your wrong and he doesn’t fight swick next…I agree with you I would have loved to see him beat KOS but I think Swick would put a real hurtin on him, and I’m also with ya on the renzo thing I think it is too late in the game for him to try to get a contract and if he did I don’t think it would amount to much given the uprising young talent in the ufc

he has fought tough competition in the past and has won and lost to them… its hard to say where he will be in terms of ranking especially with not fighting in 3 years…
id say he is a good fighter but it is unknown how rusty he is… i guess we will have to wait and see just how good he is…
i’d rather see Royce v Renzo…or Hughes v Serra 2…or any fight involving none of those people mentioned previously.

there were quite a few poeple in previous posts mentioning fights they would rather see.
Marvelknight mentions Renzo v Kos at one point, there were a few others too.
I thought i’d rather see Royce Gracie v Renzo Gracie, Matt Hughes v Serra…or any fight not involving any of the people listed in my original post…as I am not a fan of Hughes, late-stage Gracies, or Serra.
Kos would beat Hughes silly. If any of you think any different you don’t know anything about the sport. Kos has better wrestling and way better stand up. Hughes would never take that fight because this would only show that he is not capable of completing against the top guys anymore.

I’d like to see renzo fight karo myself .And if he wins then put him in there with someone like swick or Fitch just for kicks……….
listen hughes would stand a better chance against swick rhan kos. kos has knockout power ad swick…..well the only ppl he really has knocked out has week jaws. not only does kos have wayyyyy better standup but i dont think hughes could take him down hes too young and athletic. swick is athletic and young also but is small and his week point is wrestling…… thats just my opinion
