It remains to be seen when and who newly crowned, heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum will fight next, and Stipe Miocic continues to campaign for that shot.
Although former champ Junior dos Santos has made his case for a title fight, not long ago, UFC boss man said that it will likely go to Andrei Arlovski or Miocic. Arlovski has won three straight since returning to the UFC, and has taken out Travis Browne and “Bigfoot” Silva in his last two outings.
Miocic, on the other hand, stopped Mark Hunt in his last fight, and the only man to defeat him in his last 5 scraps is JDS. But, that fight was extremely competitive, and some folks had Miocic winning the December, 2014 bout.
The 32 year-old Miocic recently spoke to MMA Junkie.com, and while doing so, he admitted he’s thinking about his title shot, “24-7″. The accomplished wrestler and pugilist also relayed this:
“Listen, I’m ready,” Miocic said. “They know I’m ready. I fought the best in the world. I beat the best in the world. I think I’m the most deserving out of everyone.”
“They could tell me it’s two years from now,” Miocic said. “I’d still train for it.”
It’s going to be interesting to see what direction the UFC goes in here. Arlovski is a former champ, and as a result, he may be a bigger draw. He also holds a UD win over Werdum, which went down in 2007, so there’s a bit of a back story there. Arlovski, however, recently said he wants to scrap Fedor Emelianenko next if possible…so, there’s that possibility right? Or maybe not?
Miocic is higher ranked than Arlovski, as he’s sitting in the #3 spot while the latter is #4. Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough. Whoever it is, they’re going to have their hands full with Werdum, who is on a ridiculous roll.
