Tony Ferguson likely hasn’t locked up a title shot just yet, but following UFC Fight Night 71, a lot more people should be thinking of him as a legit contender at 155.
Ferguson worked his way to a one sided, unanimous decision win over Josh Thomson at the event, who currently is ranked #9 and is a former Strikeforce champ. If you saw the fight, then you know that Thomson battled through vicious strikes and a couple of big cuts, and somehow made it to the final bell. Both men had memorable performances, but for different reasons, obviously.
Following the card, Ferguson spoke to the UFC about the win, which likely is the biggest in his career to date (aside from winning TUF 13). Ferguson was ranked #11 prior to Wednesday’s bout, but chances are he’s going to be a top ten ranked fighter once the new rankings go up.
