A welterweight matchup between Renzo Gracie and former champ Matt Hughes remains likely to take place in 2010, though it won’t happen in February at UFC 109 as originally reported, according to Gracie Mag:
Renzo is not going to fight in February, when he will be completely focused on cousin Rolles’s UFC debut. But…
“My relationship with the UFC is excellent. Something will happen…” he hints.
On his adversary, should it really be Matt Hughes, as has been speculated for weeks, Renzo confirms nothing. Nor does he deny it: “The match-up has been made. It’s going down.
Gracie joins the UFC after winning three-straight, most-recently defeating Frank Shamrock by DQ in early-2007 in EliteXC, while Hughes had lost back-to-back fights before getting back on track in May with a win over rival Matt Serra.

I’m curious to see this one as the Gracie-MFS feuds was on of the main reasons for the Serra-Hughes issue, add in Renzo beat Militech and that Hughes beat Serra, then things will be interesting. Renzo is probably one of the best fighters in Gracie family even at 42 so while I think Hughes definitely has a sizeable advantage here, it could be a decent fight.
I still think this is something you’d see in a smaller organization trying sell tickets though.
I’m also thinking that when Hughes threw Royce Gracie a beating, that added some more fuel to the Gracie-MFS feud…
;)
Matt unfortunately is afraid of being beat by Josh Koscheck.
I believe Royce Gracie was ripped off, he could have laid there all day with Matt Hughes dropping bombs to the back of his head, all he had to do was wait for Hughes to slip up and then do a reversal and tap him out.
