The UFC has officially confirmed the full fight card for UFC 106 which will take place on November 21. The event is headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, and co-headlined by Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson.
The card has undergone many changes due to injuries and illness, including the removal of the original headlining heavyweight title bout between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, which was replaced by the scheduled co-main event of Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin. That bout too underwent some changes, as Ortiz had originally been slated to face Mark Coleman who had to withdraw because of an injury, only to be replaced by Griffin, prior to the bout being elevated to main event status.
The current co-main event for UFC 106, Koscheck vs. Johnson, was only added to the card just recently, following the other changes to the top of the bill.
The now confirmed fight card for the event is:
MAIN CARD
- Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
- Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson
- Amir Sadollah vs. Phil Baroni
- Luiz Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
- Karo Parisyan vs. Dustin Hazelett
PRELIMINARY CARD
- Ben Saunders vs. Marcus Davis
- Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann
- Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt
- Brock Larson vs. Brian Foster
- Caol Uno vs. Fabricio Camoes
- George Sotiropoulos vs. Jason Dent

Pretty weak card for a pay-per-view if you ask me. No titles, no #1 contender bouts, no heated rivalries and a whole lot of TUF guys. This looks more like an Ultimate Fight Night or TUF Finale, not something that you’d pay $50 for. Safe to say I’ll be watching this at a bar. UFC is really hoping Ortiz can draw big like he use to. No Lesnar/Carwin really hurts this PPV imho.
I agree with you 100%. Does anyone else feel like the ufc isn’t the same anymore? I used to get excited about these ppv fights, now they’re just blah :(
No stacked cards, seeing champs like gsp fight once a year (WOW), the spider fighting guys who lay on the mat waiting to cuddle (I actually paid to see this live lol), and the star of the show Dana (aka Don King aka Vince McMahon) running his mouth.
Good to see Tito back, hope we kicks Forrest “the cry baby” Griffen’s ass. The most exciting fight I’ve seen this year was Strikeforce’s (FREE) Fedor vs Rogers fight, I actually got out of my chair a few times in excitement, and everyone went nuts when rogers got KTFO, just hope the ufc gets its stuff together – $50 PPV’s? Going to the bar for this one :)
Dana aka Don King aka Vince MacMahon?
Disrespetcing the opponents of Anderson Silva and questioning the fight schedule of GSP?
Forrest Griffin is a “crybaby?
Really?
THATS the sh!t you want posted under your name here at the frenZy?
I mean, you DO realize that this site has a certain posting quality standard, right?
And if the UFC had its “stuff” any more together, they would have already purchased Strikeforce and Zuffa would be running shows almost weekly, when you factor in the WEC and Strikeforce.
Finally, with all of this “going to the bar” noise, I can only assume after reading your post that you stopped at the bar before sitting down in front of your keyboard to post.
Its a shame, because friends really shouldn’t let friends drink and post nonsensically at the frenZy…
Agreed, these weaker looking cards always seemed to be saved up for the uk events (ufc105 for example). Perhaps its just nostalgia but I recall all 5 main card bouts consisting of mouth watering matchups in the not too distant past wheres nowadays we’re lucky if we get 2.
I think the reasons boil down to 3 points:
1) Injuries, ain’t a whole lot that can be done about them though
2) TUF show which sometimes ties a belt and the defense of it for up for 6 or 7 months at a time
3) Fighters picking fights rather than rather than the organisation, when I hear talk that the Spider will never fight the Dragon I just think that’s BS, fighters should fight for the who they are told and who the spectator’s demand rather than who they are and are not friends with
Although it pains me to say but the 3 cards i’ve enjoyed most in recent times are the Strikeforce events and the two cards put on by the recently deceased Affliction organization
@Dailce,
The most exciting fight you have seen this year is Fedor v Rogers, goodness for me personally I’ve seen quite a few better fights this year.. Mind you it was nice to see Fedor do what Fedor does ahhhhhhhhhhhh I get it now, you might be anti Dana White and/or UFC it all makes sense now, my apologies for attempting to be logical with you and you almost got this to go to a Fedor thread you’re almost clever
Actually a lot of the things he said have interesting parallels. I always find it funny how the older members of this site just jump on people that say things they don’t agree with as if they are mods as well. Sit down, take a backseat, and let the mods do their jobs. Your post is just as bad IMO.
So you don’t agree with what he said.. big fucking deal.. MMA may not be wrestling but Dana White is to UFC what Vince Mcmahon (fuck spelling his name right I don’t have the patience for that shit) is to the WWE from a broadcasting standpoint/entertainment standpoint.
Of course the big difference being MMA is a real sport.
This PPV does suck and will be watched in a bar by me as well.. unless there is something really really special on a card that dosn’t have a title fight I don’t spend 50$ either.
Oh and Griffin IS a crybaby.. but he’s an emotional dude it is part of his mystique. He really is a crybaby tho, he crys, we all know this.
We all disrespected Maia after the fight remember? There is a thread on here.
Some of the members on this site jumping on people and essentially fueling the fire which they are such adamant proponents against is one of the best things this site has to offer. I mean seriously.. they think they are helping :)
Jokes on you. Joke is on you.
Yeah. Man, it’s a shame the guy got mono and couldn’t fight at 20% just to satisfy the bloodlust of the poo-flinging monkeys on the internet.
Shut up.
All in all I’ll have to agree that this isn’t the most exciting card, but considering that the whole thing has fallen apart in the last month, they put something decent together.
I find that the cards that I’m least excited about turn out to be the better fights. Less pressure on the guys to win, let’s them loose which makes a higher paced fight imo.
poo-flinging yes.
jpmm,
Agreed on all your points. But I think you forgot to mention another.
4. UFC is throwing more live events than ever before. We have roughly 15 pay-per-views a year, 3-4 Fight Nights and TUF finales. Not to mention it seems like if they can muster up a card to counter attack a rival promotions card, they will in a heart beat. When all is said and done, that’s a lot of events in a single year. Factor in the alarming amount of injuries that have been happening lately, combined with flu season and the damage is taking its toll.
There will be weaker cards and there will be stronger ones with more main event caliber type fights. But when you add up the cost of all these PPV’s in a year, we are now getting pretty darn close to $1,000 a year or more if you are watching them in HD. That’s a lot of money to be paying for fights. lol. Every so often there will be a fight card you just don’t think is worth the money, so off to the bar or a friends you go. lol. And every so often you will get an amazing free card like Strikeforce gave us this past weekend.
As long as the sport is growing and we have MMA to watch every weekend, I for one am a happy camper. There are going to be weaker cards and these are often the ones that turn out to be the best because we have lower expectations! =)
Super sick card, my boy Tito is going to make his triumphant return via elbows from the guard :)
Very nice card featuring a possible ko of the night for Rumble, can’t wait, even without Lesnar and Carwin it’s still a high quality card IMO.
lots of people are saying this is a weak card … but im likeing the looks of it for sure
and i thought they have said the winner of kos and rumble gets put RIGHT up there in line for a shot… maybe not next. but will defiantly play a role with who is fighting who to get the next shot for the title
hopefully that makes scene
and this is defiantly only IMO!!! aha others may disagree
I believe you are right. If Johnson manhandles Kos, I see his next bout being a #1 contender fight. The winner fighting GSP, after he disposes of Hardy/Swick.
ahah and not to take more from your first post, but i think the Tito vs Forrest fight has some significance … there last fight IMO Forrest got ROOOBBED and it will be nice to see it again
and i also believe it was you that said it will be nice to see how Tito does after such a long lay off, and about being curious to see how Forrest comes off that last loss.
100% agree with that
It’s no lenar/carwin but it’ll do.See what tito looks like after the long layoff, and how forest will rebound.I’m looking foward to kos/johnson to.I said it before and i’ll say again, kos by kO 1st round.Amir/baroni should be interesting.
ewww i dont know man, i think im takin rumble tko .. ummmmm early second round
IMO that is
Kos,has the ring experiance but johnson definetely has some heavy hands.but i guess it’s just a matter of who connects first.I kind hope johnson rips through his next couple of opponents.I wouldn’t mind seeing a gsp johnson matchup down the road.If he stays a WW.
The longer the fight goes the better chance Kos has… If Rumble dont get it in the first 4:30… Its got Kos written all over it.
Go Tito I cant wait to see Tito kick some a$$
and to see Johnson ko Koscheck
to see if Baroni and Caol Uno can get a win
This card looks good! Screw everyone else, these are top fights. The UFC hasn’t had a bad card in awhile.
no complaints from me on this event… new guys, old guys, returning guys, guys looking for redemption and some looking for greater opportunities, its all here…. let the show begin
This is a MAD card!!!!
Tito the GnP King is BACK…
I like this card. I do not like however Tito v. Forrest quite yet. I’d like to see both guys fight warm-ups. Tito has been out a while, and Forrest has had his image shot recently. I think both guys with a warm up fight would put on a MUCH better show against each other, but we’ll have to see.
Other than that I think Koshcheck v. Johnson is going to be sick. I also like Saunders v. Davis and Amir v. Baroni.. I am surprized to see Phil back in the Octagon a little, but good to see old fighters again. I think maybe Baroni v. Franklin would be cool, but Baroni has dropped to WW. Maybe Baroni should fight Pete Sell, that’d be about the right competition for the two…Still good card.
Pete Sell already has dominated Phil Baroni in the octagon
If i remeber correctly it was the other way around till the end of the fight.I think amir is gonna weather an early flurry then submit him late in the first.Nothing like pointing out the obvious.(:
I agree, a third loss in a row for the loser is going to be Career Killer, its like a pink slip match.
dominated? I dont think so,
It was a lucky guillotine choke at the end of round three
because Baroni gas’d
Baroni was wining all the way till he got sub’d
Regardless if Baroni can’t beat you in the fist couple of minutes, he won’t win is cardio is awful. I like Baroni but he waste all his energy early on and never recovers imo.I do however believe he will ko amir.
no fights that would be absulutely meantle here but all the broadcasted fights look really good, good job justin
I believe statistically, things happen in waves…I think we just have a collection of injuries that are randomly occuring at the same time. This is messing everything up for matchmakers. It’s not a perfect science. These guys ARE doing a pretty dangerous job. If this is the best the UFC can do right now, then that’s fine. Around the UFC 100 PPV it seemed like we had a punch of good cards. I’m sure it will even itself out this Winter into Spring. Patience!
Its not that this card is bad, Its just the caliber of cards we have seen this year have been incredible. With all the great legendery matchups this year this one doesnt matchup. Come on, UFC 100 folowed by silva griffin and bj kenflo, couture nog, franklin belfort, machida rua and many many other mega fights with great undercards. Every card has had title shots or someone fighting for a title shot and now you have to Former UFC champs that are trying to prove they still got it. But i have been criticizing this card for awhile but i believe these guys know there getting alot of heat and plan on coming out to set peoples ass on fire. I see a Fight of the year coming out of this card for some reason.
ALOT of people were not amped for the Couture v Big NOG fight and/or fight card, people discredited the Franklin v Belfort card many people didn’t like the way UFC 104 looked on paper, yet now they are say that those fight cards were awesome and great blah blah blah,,, when not but days before the event they were saying that on paper its one of the weakest cards ever.. I’m not stating that you are one of those people, yet many think that this fight card is bad well honestly, you have the return of McLovin (off of injury) and the return Karo (of off suspension) and that should be a great battle actually, you have the Debut of LiL Nog {v} Cane who is a serious threat in the LHW division it is interesting that many people can’t “get up for this fight” when honestly this has LiL Nog v Rua written all over it…. KOS v AJ com’on people have been asking for the UFC to put AJ up against a top wrestler and now here it is, plus there is a good chance that this is going to be helll of a war… Tito v Griffin II sells itself, the return of Jacob off of surgery and lets see if Griffin can get it together ( I wonder how the crowd is going to respond to Griffin), lets not forget the return of the NYBA who has a decent opportunity to ko Amir that is a interesting fight as well…..
Hell I remember that people were saying before UFC 101 that other than Silva v Griffin and Penn v Florini that card offered nothing, I find that with many UFC cards that people just biotch to biotch (mind you I’m not saying you are one of these people just purely venting), we the fans have alot of MMA this month and there are going to be great fights from different promotions, why can’t we all just chill and watch some top level fighters do their thing.. O and this “I’m going to the bar” bit is interesting to save 45~50 bucks, well I guess you guys don’t drink nor eat because 50 bucks at a bar is nada, titi, nothing… This is the only PPV this month (yes you have to pay for Showtime and Versus, but you get what I’m saying) sooo out of 6 events that will happen this month (4 left) you might pay for one, not too bad actually…
/venting
Really, REALLY well said, boss…
