If you’ve been telling folks Jose Aldo isn’t going to fight at UFC 189, after the featherweight champ incurred a rib injury last week, well, it turns out you were right.
Yes, late on Tuesday, the news that most MMA fans have been dreading came to pass. While appearing on ESPN SportsCenter, UFC President Dana White announced that Aldo has pulled out of UFC 189, and that Chad Mendes will fight McGregor for the interim title.
Really, when you look at what’s transpired over the last few days, this shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise. While the UFC announced last Wednesday that doctors determined Aldo’s ribs are only bruised, his coach, Andre Pederneiras reported that Brazilian doctors say they are fractured.
So, looks like McGregor’s wrestling game will probably be tested after all on July 11th huh?
UFC 189 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
