Arnold Schwarzenegger Says Conor McGregor is “One of The Greatest Athletes Probably of All Times”

Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor may still have his fair share of critics, and not everyone is completely sold on all “Notorious” hype, but clearly  Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t one of them…

Yes, even most people who don’t follow MMA, likely know that McGregor is set to fight featherweight champ Jose Aldo at UFC 189, due to a massive marketing campaign and a ton of media coverage. The fight is highly anticipated not only because of Aldo’s storied career and abilities, but because McGregor is the fastest rising fighter in the sport. Case in point, he appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter the other day, and predicted he’d take out Aldo in four minutes…

Well, evidently Schwarzenegger is all in on the Irish fighter, as while speaking to JOE.ie recently to promote the latest “Terminator” flick, the star said this (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“Conor is one of the greatest athletes probably of all times,” Schwarzenegger said.

“He has the right combination of the mind, the body and the talent. The two are connected so well with him, which I think is so important in athletics that you believe, 100 percent, in your victory. See it, believe it, achieve it. That’s the way it goes. He’s a great athlete.”

Now sure, some will question whether  Schwarzenegger is in fact an authority when it comes to combat sports. But, whether you agree with him or not, it’s a further indication of  how big McGregor has become.

As this is being written, Aldo-McGregor is still a go, however, the July 11th bout still appears to be in jeopardy. Aldo is expected to train today in Brazil and will assess how his treatment has been going, after he bruised / fractured his ribs last week. If he can’t fight, Chad Mendes will battle McGregor for an interim belt.

UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. In the co-headliner, welterweight champ Robbie Lawler will take on Rory MacDonald.
