UFC Announces Jose Aldo Still Booked to Fight Conor McGregor, But Chad Mendes is Ready to Step In

Earlier today it was reported that we wouldn’t learn about the fate of Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor until tomorrow, but late on Wednesday, the promotion announced the mega fight is still on…

Yes, following reports that Aldo had fractured a rib while sparring recently, the UFC has announced that the featherweight champ has “suffered a bone bruise to his rib and cartilage injury”. ┬áIn addition, the promotion says that Aldo has still intends to fight his rival at UFC 189 on July 11th,

As a result of what’s gone down, however, the UFC has put Chad Mendes on standby. If Aldo has to pull out of the fight, Mendes will fight McGregor for the interim belt.

So, there you go. Let all the talk as whether Aldo should still be fighting begin….If he loses, then of course, a lot of folks will point to the injury.

UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
