If you’re not aware of who Patricio “Pitbull” Freire is, and consider yourself a “huge MMA fan”, well, you should take steps to change that fact. Not only is “Pitbull” Bellator’s champ at 145, but he’s a ridiculously entertaining fighter to watch, as evidenced by his come-from-behind, KO win over Daniel Weichel last Friday.
Since Freire possesses a 24-2 record, and has defeated several notable vets during his career, most observers would say he’s one of the best featherweights on the planet. Is he good enough to defeat the UFC’s top featherweights however? Or the UFC’s champ Jose Aldo? Well, according to “Pitbull”, the answer is yes.
“Pitbull” recently spoke to MMA Junkie.com, and when asked if he believes he can defeat his UFC counterpart and fellow Brazilian, he stated this:
“Yes,” Freire said. “He’s fast and he has good power, but my hands are better. My footwork is better, too, and I can take down my opponents. I am the best fighter.”
“I think that Jose Aldo is a champion,” Freire said in his native Portuguese. “I think our fight probably wouldn’t sell as much as it would against Conor McGregor, because Conor McGregor can sell the fight more because we don’t speak English. But it would definitely be a war. We would both leave hurt…”
How about that huh? Now, most would agree that because Freire has a monstrous hook, is explosive, and is a BJJ black belt under the Nogueira brothers (you may have heard of them), of course he has the ability to take out any featherweight on the planet. But, would that happen if he fought Aldo 5 times? Or say Conor McGregor or Chad Mendes? It’s hard to say. Perhaps one day, we’ll get to see the Bellator champ test his skills against some of the UFC’s top fighters.
