Rumor: Mirko “Cro Cop” vs. Ben Rothwell Possible for UFC 110 in Australia
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Ben Rothwell could square off at UFC 110, according to a post on The Underground, with both heavyweights looking to rebound from recent losses at the February 20 card in Sydney, Australia.
Cro Cop (25-7-2) returned to the UFC in June with a first-round TKO of Mustapha Al-Turk, but suffered a third-round submission due to strikes against Junior dos Santos in September.
Rothwell (30-7), a former standout in the IFL, made his UFC debut last month, suffering a controversial second-round TKO to Cain Velasquez at UFC 104.
UFC 110, which has yet to be officially announced, is expected to be co-headlined by Wanderlei Silva’s middleweight debut against Yoshihiro Akiyama.

I like this fight !
I like this match-up ALOT. This should be a striking war for sure, unless Rothwell eats a few strikes that he doesn’t like.
At this point Cro-cop should consider 205, there’s already guys in that division that are bigger than him.
At first I thought this was alot for Rothwell to deal with but I was suprised to see he’s actually the more experienced fighter (technically, 25-7-2 to 30-7)
I like this match up, and the location. It seems the UFC is trying to put as many people that have spent time in the ring in Japan on this Aussie card, possibly in hopes of enticing the Japanese to make the short flight south to watch.
I don’t just love this fight…I LOVE it!
I think this is a great 2010 test for two guys who’s glory days go a few years back and need to prove something. Very exciting fight for the fans.
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!
OY OY OY!
Sorry couldn’t help myself!
I think the UFC are using clever marketing tools here, and it works in that sense and in the sense that this will show us whether Cro Cop is definitely finished or not.
The talk of old Japanese fighters is definitely true, though being a big name like Wandy or Cro Cop certainly helps too.
Sigh.
I realize that in terms of fanbase and finance this fight makes a lot of sense, but isn’t it clear by now that Mirko CroCop’s cage-fighting days are done, if he in fact ever had any?
PRIDE was a long time ago, and I dislike seeing someone who by all accounts is a sportsman of character, military veteran, and counter-terrorism law enforcement officer catch beating after beating by stronger, younger opponents who’s skillsets are better suited for cage fighting than his own…
I think that Cro-cop needs to get serious with his cardio and overall training or else just hang-em up because although i am and always will be a huge Cro-cop fan, the dude hasn’t looked too good in his last few fights. Rothwell has never been an elite fighter IMO but the dude can throw some punches. He did show a super weak takedown defense ans showed he can get controlled on the ground but Cro-cop is no ground fighter.
I feel that Cro-cop should be able to win this fight if he takes things a bit more serious and trains properly for this fight. As for Rothwell, he does have a chance to win by ko or tko but if Cro-cop finally shows up and comes as “Cro-cop” then i think Cro-cop can out striker Rothwell anu day of the weak and score a kick to Rothwell’s gut that can out Rothwell away.
I have to pick Rothwell even though i’ll be rooting for Mirko but i just feel that Mirko still won’t show up serious but i hope i’m wrong.
I hear what you’re saying, but I do think Cro-cop trained his @ss off for his last fight. He just happened to get outclassed, plain and simple. He didn’t look tired from a lack of cardio, he looked beat up. Cro-cops days might be done, but I don’t think it’s from a lack of trying as much as it is that the sport grew past him.
Dito!
people like to **** about old fighters not knowing when to quit, and embarrassing themselves with lowered competence, slower speed etc.
I, for one, never had a problem watching old blue, a bit faded (or a lot faded) fighters, struggling to make it in yet another fight.
first, people are living much longer. we have people in decent shape in their 80s and older, being active, healthy and alert.
i dont have a problem with ken shamrock or anyone trying himself in the ring yet again.
i would LOVE to see Dan Severn take on the Vanilla Gorilla!!!
I wouldn’t get too excited with this matchup, the way things are going lately one or both fighters will either be ill, injured or worse by the time February arrives.
Cro Cop if you lose this one , go fishing
in your village and leave fighting behind you
man , you are too rusty
Mirko lost his motivation and thats it, but in this fight he will definitly won
