The Ultimate Fighter 10 – Episode 8 Recap and Discussion

Team Rampage’s Marcus Jones became the team’s only fighter to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals, handing Team Rashad their only loss of the opening round with a quick and impressive armbar submission of Mike Wessel.
After consulting with the coaches and interviewing the fighters, Dana White announced the quarterfinal matchups as:
- Roy Nelson (Team Rashad) vs. Justin Wren (Team Rashad)
- Brendan Schaub (Team Rashad) vs. Jon Madsen (Team Rashad)
- James McSweeney (Team Rashad) vs. Matt Mitrione (Team Rashad)
- Darrill Schoonover (Team Rashad) vs. Marcus Jones (Team Rampage)
Next week on The Ultimate Fighter 10, Mitrione is taken to the hospital and it’s teased (yet again) that Kimbo Slice could be tapped as a replacement, while Nelson and Wren meet in the first quarterfinal bout.

Can BIG BABY do it? I do like him but he has gassed in training I’m a bit concerned, but for me he is a great story for this years TUF
Dana’s comment about his doors was pretty funny
Counter programming for the Fedor v Rogers card is TV premiers of
Franklin v Belfort
Penn v KenFlo
Anderson v Forrest
Nog v Couture
thats excellent counter programming honestly
I don’t give a damnn I’m a fan of BIG BABY’s, the guy is a huge dork for MMA just like most of us, go you big goofy som b!tch, his laugh is awesome I hope he does well either in the UFC or whereever
Fr702
That is great counter programing , it would be nice tho if they add Shogun vs Machida, that would make for a great review
Never grab someones tittie when they dont like you. haha some words of wisdom
yep I certainly agree, “it felt kinda real, it was all tissue” ha
BIG BABY is NO JOKE and he took that ARM home with him, oops shouldn’t have said BIG BABY sucks ballzz huh
yeaaaaahhhh about that sucking ballz bit… oops… Marcus said he was going to rip his arm off…
Wow, Marcus looked impressive. He comes off as super likable…I hope, win or lose, UFC gives the guy a few fights after the show is over.
Now I guess that Mike Wessel knows who sucks ba11s, and who’s moving on to the semis…
GO BIG BABY!
Impressed with Big Baby, and glad he got a win. Even though I did want Rampage to go 0-for, my liking Big Baby can overcome my dislike for Rampage, in this case.
I didn’t like the way that Dana reward Rampage’s failure by allowing to pick the fight for his one fighter like that, though. I could go into a rant about how that’s a big problem in this country, but I’ll save it, even though I’ve already said too much.
Reward failure and encourage success by piling on more work. It’s the American way.
Agree with you though about the 0-for and about Big Baby.
Looks like Big Baby is the crowd favorite.
I could root for Kimbo if he makes it back in also just because he has proven himself to be a stand up guy, even if he hasnt learned much MMA in his 2 years or so of training.
Great strategy for big guys who gas. Win in the first minute. That was probably the fight of the season so far.
very impressive bjj skills from big marcus,
any picks for the quarter finals anyone ?
im saying Wren, Schaub, McSweeney and Big Marcus
I agree with Schaub, McSweeney, and BigBaby, but to me Justin Wren looks like a 205er before his weightcut, so I’m thinking that Roy Nelson is just going to “Big Weeble” his way to another sucktacular win.
And speaking of Nelson, how funny is it that he just keeps annoying the fu<k out of a guy he wants a 6 figure fight contract from?
ya in my opinion wren-nelson was a toss up and roy nelson will probably win due to his superior bjj n experience but i just cant pick him cause i think he is way too cocky n i cant stand the guy.
and ya i find it very funny, poor guy has a huge ego and i think he will get a reality check before this season is over, whether it be on the show or in the finale.
I thought the funniest/truest thing said about Nelson was by Rashad when he said the only man on his team is him or something like that when nelson walked out to make his pick. I think Nelson will beat Wren but I think Wren may be one of the few guys invited back at some point if he does in fact lose. The ahole is still the favorite to win because of his experience but if he isn’t careful one of these guys is going to catch him.
yeah out of all the rampage guys Marcus did come off as the most likable – could be a set-up/editing cuz they know how it all plays out….woulda liked to see Schoonover vs Jackson
Actually I called it at the beginning of the season to watch out for Marcus, we didn’t even get to see the power he has in his hands either since Wessel went with the little brother trying to beat up big bro strategy. Very impressed with his BJJ though, it’s really coming along. Been following him since he was with the Bucs(a lot of my family are Tampa fans), glad to see him do well.
Only thing I thought where he made a mistake was not properly using his weight when going for the Americana, other than that I was impressed.
His record said 4-2 before the show can anybody tell me where the second loss came from? I was pretty sure he only had one.
Oh and by the way I think Marcus could have played John Coffee and not had to act…
Its like the drink but spelled different…
Finally a fight worth watching!
I’ve seen several posts through the season where people are saying they are bored and the fights suck (myself included) and we are just kinda hanging out in the hopes of one good fight. We finally get rewarded for our patience! Hopefully the semi’s are a lot more like this fight!
I agree, this was one of the better fights of the season.
Big Baby had the most impressive and I think quickest win so he should get to pick which guy he wants to fight or have his coach do the picking. Big Baby shouldnt get penalized for his team sucking. GO BIG BABY!
