Kelvin Gastelum scored an impressive win against the veteran Nate Marquardt.
After the second round, Nate Marquardt appeared to not have anything left to offer. Marquardt’s corner called the stoppage and Kelvin Gastelum takes home the second round TKO. Gastelum looked smooth and technical on his feet as he put together clean punching combinations against Marquardt. Nate got a few good shots in, mainly in the first round, but Gastelum ate his best punches and kept walking forward. In the second, Kelvin put together a big combination on Nate against the cage and had him badly hurt. It was just a matter of time before the stoppage came. Gastelum got on top of Marquardt and tagged him repeatedly with punches until the bell. After Nate walked back to his corner and sat down, his trainer called the fight without much of a response from Marquardt.
In Kelvin’s post-fight interview, he claimed he wants to drop back down to 170lbs, and that is most likely what will happen. With Kelvin’s wrestling skills and ever-improving stand up – which is what he mostly showed off tonight – he definitely seems like he could be a real top contender.
