Tecia Torres’s takedown game and top control paved the way to victory in an uneventful unanimous decision.
Heading into this bout, it appeared we would have a great scrap between two aggressive and wild strikers, but instead, the two strawweights engaged in a rather uneventful contest. Tecia Torres put Angela Hill on the mat early and often, but failed to do anything significant. Hill showed off great defense off her back as she kept Torres from passing any further than half guard. With Hill’s great defense on the bottom, and Torres’s inclination to wrestle led to a stalemate.
The two women didn’t choose to really engage one another on the feet until the third round. Hill pushed forward with punches while Torres landed some good kicks on the retreat. The Mexican didn’t favor either one however at the bell, and made them both know it. Nevertheless, Tecia Torres moves up the ladder once again. She holds wins over Paige VanZant and Rose Namajunas, so she definitely has some upside, but she just didn’t have the performance she needed to really send a message to the rest of the women strawweights.
