Miesha Tate Weighs-In on Rousey-Correia, Champ’s Willingness to Face Carano at 145, But Not “Cyborg”

Although Miesha Tate has been defeated by Ronda Rousey twice, when you have a rivalry like they do, people are going to tune in when one of them talks about the other…

Tate recently appeared on “UFC Tonight“, and not surprisingly, “Cupcake” was thrown a couple of Rousey related questions. Up next, the bantamweight champ is set to take on Bethe Correia at UFC 190, which will go down on August 1st in Rio de Janeiro.

Correia has been tapped for a title shot thanks to an impressive 3-0 run in the UFC, and because Rousey really wanted to fight her. Correia has defeated two of Rousey’s buddies in Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke, since she arrived in the UFC, and the Brazilian also campaigned hard for a scrap with “Rowdy.”

So, how does Tate think Correia will do against the undefeated Rousey? Who has wiped out her last three opponents in under two minutes total? (Quotes via FOX Sports 1 press release)

“I think Bethe is in over her head. This fight is too early in her career. She has yet to fight anyone in top 10. It’s a deep pool and Ronda’s the queen of the division. It’s a big step up for Bethe.”

Yup. Correia has certainly impressed in her recent outings, but it appears as though most folks agree with Tate on this.  If you look at the betting lines, Rousey is a heee-uge favorite in the -1150 to -1500 range…It’s also interesting to see this come from Tate considering her history with Rousey.

Tate was also asked about the whole Rousey-Cris “Cyborg” saga, and more specifically, the fact that the champ has said the latter must come down in weight to fight her. Rousey has said in the past, however, that she would move to 145 to fight Gina Carano. The Judoka has said she’d do so because Carano was a pioneer for women’s MMA, but not for “Cyborg”, because the latter’s was suspended for PEDs.

“I find it funny she’ll move up to fight Gina, but not Cyborg,” said Tate. “You should do the same for both. Don’t make the exception for one, but not the other.”

That response shouldn’t come as a surprise, since Tate recently said she’d be willing to fight “Cyborg” in a catch-weight bout at 140.

Now, all the Rousey talk aside, Tate is scheduled to fight Jessica Eye at UFC on FOX 16 on July 25th. That’s a pivotal scrap at 135, as Tate is ranked #2 and Eye is sitting at #5.
