Corey Hill Possible to Return in January; Patrick Cote Back Around April

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Nov 2, 2009 at 9:55 am ET14 Comments

Corey HillUFC lightweight Corey Hill and middleweight Patrick Cote, both sidelined since 2008 with injuries, will return to the Octagon in 2010.

Hill, who suffered a gruesome fight-ending leg break in a December loss to Dale Hartt, was expected to be out of action for up to two years, but he surprisingly resumed training over the summer and tells MMA Weekly he expects to return early next year, possibly in January.

Cote made it to the third-round against middleweight champ Anderson Silva last October, but a torn meniscus in his right knee ended the fight prematurely. Two surgeries have postponed his return, but Cote posted on Facebook on Sunday that rehab was going “very well” and that he will return around April.

good to see hill coming back, though i cant help but think if he’ll be weary to throw leg kicks now…i mean with his frame i can easily see his leg breaking again

also….I cant wait to have cote back…i want wanderlai vs cote right now!

  • Justin H says:

I just hope Hill isn’t coming back too soon. I would hate for him to get re-injured.

  • animosity says:

Man, if Hill comes back witch it sounds like he needs to put on some muscle cause with that skinny a$$ body yes we might have a repeat of another gruesome broken leg. At 6′4 I believe he is there is no way he should be fighting at 55 anyway. Gain some weight homie and move to WW!

As for Cote, I’m look’n forward to seeing how he return’s after the injury.

  • GarRule says:

It’s a part of any sport to exploit your opponent’s weakness. I guess I would go right after that leg if I were fighting him. I don;t think I’d be too comfortable with that. Guess that’s why I’m not a fighter.

  • dontbedone says:

good for corey… always liked his attitude on TUF.. go for the head kicks, less chance breaking your leg than on a kick check

  • jcohl says:

I’m hoping that Hill shakes the manorexia and bulks up to 170. He seems like a good guy, and I’d hate to see him get re-injured just because he’s too damned small for his height.

IMO Patrick Cote can’t get back into the 185 mix fast enough. Anderson Silva is on his way out, and with Hendo currently on the outisde looking in, it’s a great time to be a 185er and in the hunt for a title shot…

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

can u blame hill for fightin at 155. u take every advantage u can get. thats y huge fighters like alves, tibau, and rumble fight at there weight classes cuz there huge compared to most guys at there weight. hes got a huge advantage over most lightweights due to his height.

as a fellow canuck i always liked cote. after seein him eat that one knee anderson hit him wit i love the guy cant wait to see him back in the cage. someone said wandy vs cote and i literally started droolin. that fight screams war.

    • jcohl says:

I can understand the whole fighting at a weightclass a notch or two below your walkaround weight, but after seeing Hill’s leg snap like balsa wood at an airplane model-building convention, I’m thinking he’s one of the few 155 fighters, like Nate Diaz, that seriously needs to bulk up if they want to achieve any longterm UFC success.
Otherwise they can look forward to a short MMA future of ragdolling and injuries.

I also think that Stephan Bonnar, who is talking about dropping to 185, should be ready by April 2010, and would make a great opponent for Patrick Cote…

      • huertarogerhuerta says:

could hill possibly bulk up and stay at 155? i just think given time wit his size he could wreck havoc at 155. not so much at 170 if he bulks up to ww hes gonna run into a murders row of bad dudes and his ufc career is just as short. at 155 i see alot of lightweights havin a hard time wit hill on the feet.

honestly cote vs anyone sounds good to me. b it bonnar, wandy, a grizzly bear whoeva just get him back in there. i mean if hendo doesnt sign give him marquardt. whoever he fights im just excited to see him back and start sluggin on peoples faces.

  • RJA says:

Good to see hill back. After seeing that injurie wasn’t sure if he’d ever walk without a limp, let alone fight again.(this is my home this is my zone)or something like that.

  • Deaconhyral says:

Can’t wait to see Hill back in the cage. I think if he works hard he’ll be a threat in the lightweight division
