UFC FN 68: Main Card Results And Play-by-Play

With the prelims wrapped up for UFC Fight Night 68, it’s time to move to the main card bouts.

In the main event, the legendary Dan Henderson will battle middleweight contender, Tim Boetsch.

Alex Caceres vs. Francisco Rivera

Caceres fires a kick to start things off. Rivera wings a big hook in return. Wow. Another hook from Rivera floors Caceres, and the ref jumps in after the latter takes a couple more shots. That was ridiculously fast.

Anthony Birchak vs. Joe Soto

Both men come out throwing leg kicks. Birchak digs a left to the body. Soto fires a nice overhand right. Birchak dorps Soto with a right hand. Soto recovers and starts hunting for a leg. Action is back on it’s feet, and Birchak sends Soto to the mat, unconscious, with a flurry of punches. Impressive win for Birchak.

Brian Ortega vs. Thiago Tavares 

Tavares plants a right hand right out of the gate. Tavares shoots in and gets the takedown. Ortega swings into an armbar. Tavares defends and is tossing down punches. Tavares with more shots from inside the guard. Wow. Ortega goes for another armbar and uses it to sweep. Ortega is mount. Beautifully done. Tavares is cut. Ortega with elbows from the top. Tavares gets back to his feet and in the ensuing scramble, they wind up on the ground. Ortega works his way back to his feet. Tavares tosses some big punches Ortega’s way. The latter counters. Tavares with a highlight reel throw. Action filled round ends.

Round 2: Tavares is moving forward but gets staggered by an elbow. Tavares shoots in. They scramble to the cage and Tavares is on top. Ortega plants an up kick to the face of Tavares. The latter is working from within the guard. Ortega gets to his feet but is taken down once more. Ortega wings another elbow from the bottom. Briefly threatens with a triangle choke but Tavares moves into mount. Wow. Ortega eats some heavy, heavy shots and goes for a leg. Tavares defends and has top position again. Tavares is a bloody mess. More up kicks from Ortega. Another triangle-choke attempt from Ortega. Tavares with GNP strikes. Gruelling round ends.

Round 3: Doctor takes a look at cut on Tavares which is massive. Absolutely huge. Tavares shoots in but Ortega defends. Tavares with 1-2. Ortega with a Superman Punch off the fence. Tavares dives in for a single. Can’t get it. Ortega takes a big knee to the groin. Fight resumes. Tavares threatens with a head kick. Ortega spins but misses with a kick. Tavares shoots in again, can’t get it, but moves to back of standing Ortega. Ref separates them. Ortega knocks the mouthpiece of Tavares out with a left. Tavares chucks a couple of bombs. Wow. Ortega returns fire and Tavares goes down. Ortega is tossing down punches from mount and the fight’s stopped. What a scrap.

Dustin Poirier vs. Yancy Medeiros 

The lightweights come out throwing shots. Wow. Poirier drops Medeiros with a big punch. Medeiros gets back up but is sent to the mat again with a follow up shot. Medeiros gets up but is brought to the floor by Poirier. The latter is on his back and is looking for a choke. Medeiros defends and Poirier elects to get back to his feet. Poirier bends Medeiros over with a massive kick to the body. Medeiros is eating punch after punch. The bout is mercifully stopped. What a performance from Poirier.

Ben Rothwell vs. Matt Mitrione

Mitrione leads with a left. Rothwell attempts to counter another left from Mitrione. Latter tags Rothwell with a right. Another right from Mitrione. Big leg kick from Rothwell and flurries in. Mitrione with a kick to the body. Mitrione shoots in but Rothwell wizzers. Wow. Rothwell sinks in a front choke and Mitrione taps. What a finish!

Dan Henderson vs. Tim Boetsch 

Boetsch with a right to start things. Boetsch gets staggered by a booming right hand as he comes in. Boetsch is attempting to recover but takes several more punches and “Big” John McCarthy stops the fight. Wow. Huge win for “Hendo”.
