The UFC has made another round of roster cuts and while some of the names may not come as a surprise, a couple probably will….
According to a report from Bloody Elbow.com, the UFC has let go the following fighters:
Now, per usual, several of these fighters are coming off three defeats, including the likes of Dylan Andrews, Shayna Baszler and Alptekin Ozkilic. Competitors like Shane Howell and Vik Grujic, are coming off back-to-back losses. So, in an age where the UFC is constantly looking to free up roster spots, these cuts might not be too surprising.
One firing that seems to be taking people by surprise, however, is the release of Tim Elliott. The flyweight has lost three straight, this is true, but the defeats came against ranked contenders in Ali Bagautinov, Joseph Benavidez and most recently Zach Makovsky. In fact, if you look at the rankings right now, Elliott is still sitting in the #13 position at 125. So, it’s not every day you see a ranked fighter get their walking papers.
Elliott hasn’t commented on his release directly on Twitter, but he has been re-tweeting posts from annoyed, and or, surprised fans. Considering Elliott’s abilities, and who he lost to, a couple of wins, maybe just one, will likely send him back to the UFC.
It also wasn’t that long ago when Louis Gaudinot was a top 15 ranked flyweight, but but more recently, he’s gone 0-2, with 1 no contest. The defeats were to Kyoji Horiguchi, who just fought for the title (and lost) and the aforementioned Elliott. Don’t be surprised if Gaudinot winds up in another big organization like Bellator.
