Josh Koscheck To Co-Headline UFC 106
Welterweight Josh Koscheck has announced via Twitter that he’ll be co-headlining UFC 106 on November 21 in Las Vegas:
I got some big fight news for me. I am fighting nov 21 in Vegas. Co main event!!! Haha it’s on baby!!!!
An opponent has not yet been announced for the bout, a late-addition to bolster the card currently headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin after losing Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, its original main event, on Monday.
One potential opponent, Matt Hughes, turned down the short-notice matchup, according to Inside Fight’s Jeremy Botter.
The speculated front-runner is now Anthony Johnson, who is coming off a 41-second knockout of Yoshiyuki Yoshida at Saturday’s UFC 104 event and could be ready to fight Koscheck next month.
Koscheck (13-4) bounced back from an upset loss to newcomer Paulo Thiago with a first-round knockout of Frank Trigg in September.

kos vs hughes?
Hughes seems likely, but Anthony Johnson is another possibility, and is the matchup I’d personally prefer to see.
Great, still doesnt change the fact I’m not going to spend $50 on this show with Griffin vs Ortiz as the main event.
Ok, then don’t. Or are you going to turn into the mmafrenzy.com equivalent of the guy that mentions every 22 seconds that he drives a Prius?
He fights more than anyone I believe. I’m sure Dana loves a guy he can call on short notice and the guy delivers.
A Hughes fight would be meaningless,”to me at least”.
It better be a big name he’s fighting or I’m gonna be salty/disappointed!
That is precisely why I believe he will never be in danger of getting cut. He is too willing to come in on short notice and bail the UFC out of a jam. This is at least the second time I can think of him doing it (Alves on short notice being the first).
You know what guys? Sometimes the cards that look the weakest become great cards. There are some Fight Night that are just awesome! [UFC Fight Night 14] I’ll wait to reserve my judgment.
Give me Anthony Johnson v KOS all day, AJ won’t gain that much weight in a month and is actually one hell of a fight, you want to test AJ with the ground defense and you want to test KOS’ chin sounds great to me..
I’ll second that.
Agree 100%, gives both guys a big test and establishes one as a legit contender.
while I agree it’d be the best match-up, would AJ be able to safely get back down to weight that quick?
I think it would be “safer” than getting back up to 200+ and then cut back down in a few months, what he would get to 190 at the most (and ya that extra 10~20lbs is huge), and neither one of them had a difficult fight in their last fight and as Kris stated this would give a definate contender…
well I’m just thinking he didn’t even make 170 this time and he tried pretty hard, not sure how much his body will be ready to go.
I love the fight just don’t like it on short notice with AJ already having weight issues.
Chrisl
Thats what happen’s when big guys get a injury while trying to make a weight cut , Johnsons never had a trouble with it before, this is kind of like Alves 4lbs over going into the Hughes fight, now look 2 fights after that no problem with weight cutting.
He did miss against Clementi but that fight was crazy short notice ya know
true fr702
I’ll restat what I just said differently then ..When he’s given proper notice for his fights he can normally make weight if all goes well
ufc- this fight is essentially on less than 3 weeks notice if you count it by how a normal camp runs(week before fight is extremely light). I know Rumble can make the weight because he has in the past but this is a really fast turn around for a guy who was 6 pounds over for his last fight who then rehydrated, ate a lot trust me, and then is asked to be back down at 171 on November 21st.
It’s a fight I want to see just not sure how fresh rumble will be for it.
Its kind of funny cause I was talking about a Kos vs AJ match yesterday on the forums ..on how I’d try to make new contenders in each division, nice to see we’re on the same page fr702
Man I thought the same in a interview with AJ when he kept saying he had big news for a big fight. I HOPE sooooo!!! Great fight!!
I cann’t wait to see Forrest vs Tito 2, but after Forrest’s destruction I don’t believe the casuals well want to see him for a 50$ headliner, and Tito hasn’t been around for a while. Most casuals probably didn’t even see Tito/Forrest 1. My main point here is this fight doesn’t look very attactive for a main event ppv. I’m not paying for it ,but I’m watching it at a friends house or a bar anyways.
HOW ABOUT FITCH VS KOS
Fitch for one is in a rematch with Alves (first fight won by Fitch) and all of AKA have stated that they won’t fight one another, well Fitch and KOS joked that they would “think about it” if it were for the title….
Everyone is ruling out Semtex? It can be him!
O I haven’t ruled out anyone, Kampmann, Daley, Condit, Larson, Hughes, I personally haven’t ruled anyone out the fight I would like to see is AJ you know thats all
Daley and Condit are scheduled for 108 I believe
But ZUFFA has to save 106, not 108 ya know, I was just saying
AJ AND KOS WOULD BE AN AWESOME FIGHT BUT I DOUBT AJ WILL FIGHT AFTER FIGHTING A MONTH BEFORE SO ANOTHER FIGHTER THAT ADDS UP GREAT WITH KOS IS CHRIS LIGHTS OUT LYTLE
He did lose 20% of his purse and got denied his KO of the NIGHT bonus, he might be hungry for some money?
i think this fight makes perfect sense… AJ didn’t suffer any damage.. he can def. watch his weight for 2 months.. you know hes not at his normal walking weight so why not get back in the gym train for a fight in 2 months.. more $$ and he can really decide if he wants to move up to 185
106 is only a month away.
ic… well its not like he won’t be in shape… just matter of commitment and game planning. dunno how comfortable he is off is back tho.. unless he can KO kos before he has the chance..
johnson gonna knock him out
Fr,
Umm…hornbuckle (as I whisper sheepishly)
I don’t think this fight should be a co-headliner.
Give Anthony Johnson the gatekeeper of 170
Chris “Lights Out” Lydle
That would be a War and we would find out if Johnson can throwdown.
You give him Josh, he will simply put Johnson on his back (similar to Lydle) and we will have an oldschool Mark Coleman ground and pound match.
C M
rumble is on his way to be a top tier fighter… lytle puts on good fights but he would be facing a world class striker (in the mma world). you can’t expect to trade with rumble and win.. won’t happen lytle could possible be the first person to die in the octagon
Lytle is a gold gloves boxer, he has never been KO’d in the octagon. KOS would not stand with and took him down. Chris Lytle would make for a much better fight.
Mark my words, this world class striker is going to the ground for a boring three round fight and will get pounded out. AKA will not mess around, KOS can not afford this loss and will not stand with him.
Lytle on the other hand will stand with him and has better technicial striker, I assure you that he would make for a much better fight.
Saying that Anthony Johnson could “kill” Lytle is a little excessive, Lytle is a vet. nd would come in with a strong gameplan. The only reason KOS gets the fight is they need a headliner, and he is a contravershal enough personality to possibly save this weak card.
