Nate and Hendo should be looking very closely at this…..Vitor sounds like he is really second geussing himself here, I know that it is obviiously not up to him but I smell something really fishy here, either it is Vitor being scared to fight Silva or the UFC is going in another direction here but that interview does not make any sense to me, If I am in the Silva camp I see a man already mentally defeated at the thought of fighting me.
He wouldnt be a fighter if he was going to be scared. What is there to be scared of???? He knows there is always a chance he will get knocked out no matter who he faces. He is a nice guy calling how he sees it.
Honestly I doubt Vitor is scared of Anderson. This to me solidifies that Belfort is a very respectable fighter and a good person. His willingness to get in there with Silva doesn’t seem like he is worried about fighting him, it’s just he don’t even believe he deserves a shot at this point and maybe wants to sharpen his skills before stepping in with the P4P best fighter EVER. Makes sense to me.
This man makes perfect since… but i dont know how that translates to him being scared.
sorry man I can’t agree with ya on this one he has had his tune up fights i.e martin, lindland, franklin…who at 185 is tougher right now than them..ok I’ll give you terry martin….but vitor destroyed franklin and lindland who are two amazing fighters, so putting him in there with a Bisbing, kondo, or kang or anyone of that nature doesn’t really make sense unless he fights either Marq, or hendo whichever doesn’t get the shot but thats just my opinion
Lindland WAS a great fighter, he hasn’t been great in awhile. He’s a good fighter though just not great.
I do believe he should have a top tier fighter before fighting Anderson, and I am in agreement that having him fight someone lower doesn’t make any sense.
I’m not saying he is scared but when someone wants more fights that has been aroung the game for as long as him and with his credentialls that’s telling me there is something there that’s all I’m saying….If I am Anderson I’m tellin myself this guy wants no part of me
He’s not scared, I feel that he probably also has an issue with the fact that he has not fought at 185 yet in the UFC. Once he does against someone legit I feel he’d be all about it. Belfort is a respectable guy and I look forward to his career in the UFC.

Chris was saying fight at 185 against someone legit. That does not imply he thinks Franklin isn’t legit, because that fight was at 195.
see if u have read my posts in the past animosity u would know that I think Silva is highly beatable, and I think that Hendo is the best candidate to do that…I just didn’t like the interview cause right now unless Vitor fights Nate or Hendo there is no one else in the 185 pound div that he can use as “tune up fights” for silva right now with back to back ko’s of franklin and Lindland I think it is the best time for him to fight Silva and he should be adamite about that…That said I don’t beleive he has earned the shot which I have stated a bunch of times I have said I think it should be Hendo if not Nate but that being said I am no way an anderson Silva supporter the exact opposite actually so I didn’t want my post to come off like I was saying Silva is the greatest or anything I just didn’t like what Vitor said in his interview he sounded dismissive

Justin is right. That is exactly what I meant. The fight with Franklin was at 195, not at 185, if he destroyed Franklin at 185 then it’d be an easy contender argument.
I’m not bashing Franklin at all, he fought a better fighter and lost that night. Franklin is a great fighter but he’s no longer a middleweight.
nate would beat hendo fyi. At one point in time i thought hendo would be the only person to have a shot at silva but now my feelings are more towards nate. Nate is a beast and a force to be reckoned with.. Nate deserves this fight over anyone else in the weight class, its that simple.
It would be foolish for Anderson to under estimate Vitor. I’m sure he’s smarter than that.
I cant see the interview because i cant stream video at my work, but its true Marquardt does diserve it over Belfort but that doesnt mean Belfort isnt stepping into the octogon with Silva. I just hope Henderson signs that damn contract and fights Marquardt.
as of right now the contract isn’t signed for Silva-Belfort, but it is the most likely outcome if the Hendo talks continue to stall.
Vitor ain’t scared of NO MAN. Show me one fight where he was scared.
Even when he looses by decision he dominates and punishes his opponents (Tito, Lidell, Overeem etc etc). He has knock out power in one shot and when he hits you’re out smimming. He’s also best finisher in the mma game. He’s twice as fast as most MMA guys. Silva will get cought and lights will be out. I see Silva being scared by this doctor BS tactics.
Nate and Hendo had a shot a title already once. Let the man fight and get his chance. I also think Nate can win with Silva as well but Vitor has better chance with his IRON FISTS. Hope the fight happens. My $ will be on Vitor as i’m sure he will be huge underdog.
i hate to be “that guy” but vitor does sound a bit dodgy. i suppose this could b part of his grand scheme to dethrone silva, hoping he wont take him seriously but we all know silva has never been lacking in confidence so i dont think that vitor could do anything prefight to add to silvas ego
Remember there’s been a lot of rumbling from many fighters over his credibility as the 185 top contender with Marquardt and Hendo there. Could also be a possibility that it has gotten in his head and he wants to legitimize his shot by winning a fight at 185 before fighting for the 185 title.

Often times in a fight the fighter who get’s the first shot in, wins. You can never count Belfort out. Probably the quickest hands in the sport today. If he can catch Silva, he can win this fight. Do no underestimate the guy. He has some serious knockout power and quickness.
I never understand whe someone posts “he is undeserving” of a shot. Recent history shows us that guys who get called “undeserving” ussually are. (Brock, Shogun) I never complain about the matchmaking in the UFC, as I believe the UFC ALWAYS has the company and the fans interest at heart. If they believe it’s Belfort’s time…so be it!
Also…I have a hard time agreeing with people that say Nate deserves it more, or Hendo deserves it more…they BOTH had their shot. They were both given the opportunity and LOST. Sure, I belive in second chances…look at Liddel / Couture 2. (did I spell them right?) But right now, it’s Belfort’s turn…or sign Hendo and let him fight Nate for a chance at it.
The thing about the “undeserving” part that’s making this a different situation is the reported backlash coming from several named and unnamed fighters because he has yet to ever fight in the UFC at 185. Belfort may be the biggest threat to Anderson but the popular stance is that he needs to fight at 185 first. The truth is you have pointed out the biggest issue in a sport like this is the balance between what’s “right” and what sells.
You can add Forrest and Rashad to that list…guys who people thought didn’t deserve to get a title shot only to beat the champ.

Wow, after reading a few of the comments im gonna change my pov and hop on the vitor bandwagon. Its to good of a point that they had there chance all ready. And saying that beating franklin at 195 doesnt give him cred at 185 is retarded. What much more do you think franklin would have done to vitor if they weighed 10 pounds less?
It’s not about beating a very good Franklin it’s about weighing in and winning a fight at 185 in the UFC.
Just because Lyoto beat BJ Penn doesn’t mean he has first dibs on the lightweight crown. Catchweight fights have no belt.
It’s the same reason I put no weight(no pun intended) on Rumble’s win on saturday.
Couple thoughts here:
- First, Vitor Belfort not only displays tremendous class and sportsmanship in every interview I’ve seen him in, but he must be VERY confident to so calmly discuss fighting Anderson Silva, or standing aside and letting Marquardt fight Silva, or whatever eventually drops.
- Second, and I’m going to keep maintaining this point until it sinks in, is that Rich Franklin it not only a great fighter, but not even close to retiring or being past his prime.
There was no shame in losing to Belfort, just like there was no shame in his losing a tough SD to Hendo.
And the man beat Wand in what was by all accounts a fist-fight. How the He11 does that send the signal that Franklin is past his prime?
Franklin really put on a show in 2009, and the guy deserves his respect.
If you’re of the opinion that Franklin isn’t a great fighter, I’d suggest you move along and post that noise at newbmmafan.com or some other sh!t site like that.
This is the frenZy, where the MMA IQ is VERY high, and most of us KNOW who rocks in the cage and who should probably roll on out to Strikeforce or DREAM or Bellator or wherever.
- Third, lets remember that Dana White, as he does so often, completely made up the Belfort-Silva fight in his head, and he did it to try and distract both the fighters and the fans from the fact that he promised not one but TWO different 185ers a title shot, and then caved when Anderson Silva [thru his mouthpiece Ed Soares] squawked like a turkey on Thanksgiving about having to rematch Hendo, Marquardt, or possibly both.
The plain truth is that Dana White has invested far more total resources in Anderson Silva than he has in Hendo and Marquardt combined, so he felt completely justified in publicly sh!tting all over them in order to make Silva happy.
Hendo, outraged as any real man would be, decided to go home and wait White out in contract talks while Dana tries to get his 185 house in order.
Throwing Vitor Belfort into the 185 title picture without him winning a single 185 UFC fight is like distracting a crying baby with a set of shiny keys, or a middle school girl with a DVD of Twilight.
Belfort is “new” to UFC fans, and seriously impressed with his win over Franklin. Belfort knows he hasn’t eanred a title shot, and is probably a little embarrassed to be caught up in some promoter’s screw-up.
- Finally, I’m thinking that if Dana and Hendo don’t kiss and make up, Belfort should fight Marquardt, and Silva can fight the winner. The UFC is big enough to let one man, regardless of his drawing power, sit on the shelf for another 5 months, unless he wants another 205 fight, or Frank Mir at HW.
And it would serve Silva right for the noise he made about fighting Hendo or Marquardt again.
Lets just all keep things in perspective here. This 185 train wreck is Dana White’s fault, and Vitor Belfort doesn’t deserve any grief from either the fans or his fellow fighters for being manipulated by MMA’s Grand Poobah…
remember you only have until April 10th to watch Silva fight…

Champions clause yes but you can’t keep someone from retiring and vacating their belt. That said I doubt he ever retires with a fight left on his UFC contract, so if he was lured by the prospects of some crazy offer he could take it.
completely agree with the franklin thing also think that if hendo leaves Nate and vitor would be a good fight?? What is the status of Silva’s injury?? maybe the ufc would be smart to let nate fight vitor at 106 now that brocks out??
while unlikely on less than a months notice that would be a nice fight to see.
Look jcohl…ive got a feeling that ace retiring bit was directed at me and thats fine. I could care less of your opinion on my MMA knowledge because you come across like a know it all and like your **** dont stink. We can all debate about things on this website but you dont have to be a jerk toward someone for having a different opinion than yours. Now I will admit in hindsight my remark on ace retiring was a bit overboard he is an excellent fighter but lets see what his next peformance shows. As far as the vitor vs silva thing goes I think vitors status as a MW gives him credit but not enough to fight for the title this fast. He should fight marquardt for a title shot because IMO hendo is outta tha ufc for now….he will go to strikforce

Maybe you should read back on some of the posts, because I don’t see anywhere on this thread where you posted that Rich Franklin should retire. I have seen a few posts here and there to that effect, and as my post indicated I’ll be dispelling that ridiculous idea wherever I encounter it until I stop seeing it.
I try to never personally attack other posters, partly because its contrary to stated frenZy policy, which leads to moderation and possible banning from the site for repeated offenses, and partly because it makes someone look like a d!ck when they call someone else out in a public forum and try and kick up some middle school drama instead of sticking to the thread topic and contributing to the discussion intelligently.
Finally, I like to assume that if a person has found their way to the frenZy, which is a big boy MMA site and not a fan boy MMA site, they have a certain amount of MMA knowledge and personal maturity, and I afford them a corresponding degree of respect and courtesy. If someone proves my assumption dead wrong with a post like, “I think Ken Shamrock is STILL the world’s most dangerous man”, or “when does Tank Abbott fight again in the Octagon?”, or “Rich Franklin should retire only months after winning Fight of the Night honors with Wanderlei Silva [who he beat]“, then I adjust the degree of respect and courtesy, but only in that I’ll tend to ignore any further trollishness and other folk that post factlessly in that same vein.
One thing I never do is drop into the figurative gutter with noise like, “you seem like a jerk” or something of that nature.
To the best of my knowledge you haven’t done anything [much] of that nature on this thread, so I’m not sure what your beef with me is.
Maybe it would be best if you just skipped over my posts, so that this way there won’t be any further confusion or unpleasantness…
I don’t understand all the scared comments. These guys fight for a living at the professional level.
99% of these guys (Kalib Starns = 1%?) thrive on fighting and competition. They live for the opportunity of a title shot and do their best to beat the #1 guy.
Maybe I could understand this if it was a #25 guy facing a #1 guy but this isnt Vitor’s first rodeo, but even then, I bet most of those guys would chop at the bit to make that upset happen.
I think fear is not what motivates these guys. There could be external influences that make a fighter back away from a fight at any given time, but I just dont see “fear of a fight” as a stumbeling block for dudes who have dedicated their lives to fighting.

I will tell you everyone is a little scared when you get into a match or fight. However, if you are at that level the fear isn’t a restriction but motivation. No guy will duck another due to fear. Unless it was Miguel Torres versus Lesnar… that’s scary stuff
Very true. I didnt mean they are “fearless” just that fear isnt a motivation to duck a fight at this level of competition.

I dont question Belfort at all, and I think its ridiculous for people to say he is truly scared of Silva.
There are different ways to use the word “scared” or “fear”
Its normal for fighters to be nervous or scared before a fight.
I think Vitor stands a decent shot against Silva.
Do I think he could beat him? Not really…
After what Shogun just did to Machida, Im not counting any challenger out from now on.
You also have to consider the fact that “styles make fights”
Hendo vs Marquardt is a better matchup than Marquardt vs Belfort or Hendo vs Belfort IMO.
I still think Henderson stands the best chance against The Spider.
I think Marquardt-Silva would be similar to the first fight. Except Silva would finish him in the later rounds. But thats just my opinion…

Sorry frenzy folks I post on here all the time and me as a fighter in no way was disrespecting vitor I guess I should have used the word dismissive b4 I used scared I have watched Vitor since the beginning guys and my thread started off wrong….I get nervous b4 fights I guess by me saying he was sounding scared was more of me thinking he was really dismissive about wanting to fight Silva……Do I think Vitor can beat Silva yes I do if Nate and Hendo didn’t get guaranteed shots do I think he should be the #1 contender of course cause no one else stacks up at 185….So maybe a tune up with nate the great would work maybe at 106 instead of lesner I just didn’t like the sound of his interview but didn’t mean to low ball him…..As a fighter I respect any fighter who has been a champion or even that is in the big shows I.E……Strikeforce….UFC……. Dream…..etc…….If u have seen my other posts I lose it when people put down the griffins and jardines and others when they loose
