Ronnys Torres to Debut Against Melvin Guillard at UFC 109 in February
Lightweight prospect Ronnys Torres is slated to make his UFC debut against Melvin Guillard at UFC 109 on February 6 in Las Vegas, according to Tatame.
Torres (14-1), who was scheduled to debut against Guillard and Jeremy Stephens in 2009 before injuries forced him to withdraw from both fights, has won eight-straight, including a 5-0 mark in his most-recent bouts in 2008. Torres’ most notable win was a 2006 victory over Rafael Feijao, one of just two decisions on his record.
After back-to-back losses sent Guillard (22-8-2) packing from the UFC in 2007, a win outside the Octagon earned him a return to the promotion, where he won “Knockout of the Night” over Dennis Siver at UFC 86 last July before earning a decision over Gleison Tibau in June. “The African Assassin” suffered a second-round submission to Nate Diaz in September in the main event of UFC Fight Night 19.
UFC 109 has yet to be official announced, but is rumored to include Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller, Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg, and Rolles Gracie vs. Mustapha Al-Turk.

Guillard should do just fine if he knocks off the inexplicable high school Harry sh!t he pulled against Nate Diaz…
Melvin is my boy, I’ve always enjoyed his fights and always hoped he would develop the ground skills to not get choked out by a simple sub. The kids got crazy speed and extreme power and semi solid wrestling. I just wish he would work on his sub defense. Getting choked by nate is one thing but his other losses are sickining
I really like this guy (Melvin) and I believe that he has the pure athleticism to be a great MMArtist one day. There are a few things that are setting him back:
1) Maturity
2) Ground Game
ageed melvin impressed the he11 out of me in the diaz fight tho and i do believe he is much more mature than he was when he entered the ufc (aside from his possum antics in the cage)
i’ve seen him get choked out so many freakin times in the ufc. He always follows up with a good next performance though. As long as he doesn’t get taken down or has to keep on avoiding being taken down like in the Tibau fight, he’s gonna knock this mofo out.
