Pictured: Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

wow i hope shogun destroys machida even tho its not very likely and big ben will ko over hyped cain this card is pretty good hopefully all the fights live up to the hype.
LETS GO MACHIDA!!!!!!!
Lets go Machida the Dragon is the baddest man alive right now, and not only is he the baddest man alive he is displined in karate which has been completely lost in this (BJJ) universe that we now live in known as the UFC. So Shogun get ready for the Dragon because he will not be slayed tonight or anytime soon or at least have what might be considered competition until Silva steps up to try and slay the Dragon. Lets go Machida.
hope shogun wins by ko
same for rothwell
This is what I want…
Shogun by ko
Cain by tko
this is what I guess…
Machida by ud
Cain by ud
I wouldn’t mind seeing the sonnen/okami fight.Hopefully they’ll have time to show it on spike.
Heres what i want to see…
Shogun by tko but prolly will see machida ud
Cain by ud
Fisher by ud
Johnson by KO
Okami by ud
Undercard:
Gormley via UD
Hassan via Sub
El Conquistador via TKO
Okami via SD (Really want to see that fight, even though it will probably be slow and boring)
Televised Preliminary Fights:
Barry via KO (upset special)
Bader via UD
MAIN CARD:
Tibau via Sub
Johnson via TKO (Although I dont think he should get alot of credit if he wins seeing how he missed weight by a ridiculous amount, and he is already a huge welterweight)
Joe Daddy via UD (Now that he has Greg Jackson as his cornerman, I think he is going to climb back up to the top of the division)
Velasquez via KO round 3
MAURICIO SHOGUN RUAAAA! via sub
Ill guess round 3? I think Machida will look phenomenal in the first two rounds, but I see him being a little over confident on the ground, and I think he will get caught in a triangle choke or an arm triangle IMO.
Everybody elses picks? Opinions?
I like rua by sub if he can take em down
Machida caught in a triangle choke or arm triangle,Wow!!Very bold prediction,i’d bet a years salarie thats not gonna happen. But then again crazier things have happened. And were all entitled to a little wishfull thinking.:)
Yes indeed crazier things have happened. Like Serra beating GSP. Gonzaga KO’ing Cro Cop. Etc.
rua doesnt have a chance. he beat a washed up liddell to get a title shot. just like rashad. only difference is rashad beat forrest. but forrest didnt look like himself that night. i know machida will be ready tonight. he is the most disciplined fighter in the ufc. and rothwell isnt as good as the hype. cain by KO
First off, Rashad beat Forrest fair and square. Forrest looked great in that fight till round 3. So…he was definitely himself, he just got beat by a fighter who has KO power and was on a serious hot streak.
Rua doesnt have a chance? Really? Because last time I checked, this is MMA and every fighter has a chance. IDC if your Rambo(with or without a Knife) or something, you still have a chance to lose.
Rua did indeed beat Liddell, but he also beat Coleman, and Rampage Jackson, and Ricardo Arona, and Alistair Overeem TWICE, and Antonio Rogerio Noguiera, and Gono, and Nakamura, and Kevin Randleman.
If you know MMA, then you know all those guys are awesome fighters.
Like Dana has been saying, Rua has the BEST chance to dethrone Machida. Im pretty sure when the president of the UFC says Rua has a chance….well then…he has a damn good chance.
Oh and did I mention he is only 27?
rua fought those guys years ago he isnt as good as he used to be and i thought forrest looked slow and off tempo. he wasn’t throwing his punches with authority like he usually does and his ground game wasn’t on par.
SHOGUN RUA TKO 3RD ROUND
CAIN KO 2ND ROUND
QUOTE ME
Lyoto Machida (c) vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua- Machida to win
Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell – Velasquez
Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher – Fisher
Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida – Johnson
It’s funny jenkins, when i said crazier things have happened those were the first 2 fights that popped into mind.We shall see.
And I’m back from my work week in Vegas and watching a good fight between Barry and Hardonk, good stuff soo far for the prelims, lets enjoy UFC 104
congrats to Barry that was his best fight for the UFC by far nicely done kid….
great fight but thought hardonk was gonna win
That hit by Barry to the throat of Hardonk was vicious….could hardly watch it each time they replayed it….ouch..
Nice marine commercial in the “commercial free” presentation.
DYO,
commercial free during the fights man com’on the fighters are making their entrances rightnow, lets think logically……
It was just an observation/joke. Lighten up
DYO,
I’m good no worries man
little editing issues but hey its free prelims I’m good with it
i’ll call it 4 ben ‘rothweiller’ ;-0
hope for show-gun’s show
Struve is awesome NICE triangle good to watch
yeah very nice ground control too
dammmmnnnn Bader is a angry man, wow and I was going to put money on Red while in Vegas… hmmmm
Red can take a punch nice to see it go to round two, I like Rosenthal saying to Bader if you want him up step back….
Machida, of course.
dominating 1st rd by bader but horrible 2nd rd
ya I see one round a piece
I think Bader won that but whatever good stuff
that was an alright fight bader was gassed after the first round
30-27 on two scorecards, wow.
what judge scored 29-26…. my lord..what was he watching
but i would like Ben Rothwell to win
that comment wasfor the bader fight
These judges are starting to worry me. I hope this isn’t how the whole night is gonna go.
bad scoring but bader won on my scorecard 29-27 bader won first rd 10-8
AJ hells ya, o but he just lost 20% of his fight purse, Yoshida shouldn’t get fired imo, good stoppage by Mazz, way to go AJ
Go Johnson
41sec = Yoshida got owned
first round for Joe thats a given imo
nice by Stevenson good stuff awesome elbows…
wow Stevenson !!!!
what take downs by by Tibau good stuff and why would Neer touch his shin and show his opponent where his pain is….
Tibau is starting to gass way to switch to that armbar that was sick but he couldn’t finish….second round is close but Tibau is hellla gassing imo
Decent fight, not sure about the scoring but honestly Tibau won that fight,,,,,, Now Cain v Ben should be interesting…
Cain vs Ben is the one I want to see
I really hope this is an awesome fight back and forth by both fighters, should be a good one
wish i could watch these fight i got cain by ko
round by round would be sweet haha
cain keeps taking ben down and Ben just doesn’t look himself, he is too worried about going to the ground with Cain and with violent gnp with a minute to go Ben is just being crazy dominated Ben up to his feet getting dropped by another take down, 30 seconds to go ben is being man handled by cane and ben is just looking horrible, has ben even thrown a decent punch Im not sure this is the definition of a 10~8 round imho….. I’m no fan of Cain but he has dominated Ben, Cain is standing in the corner not breaking a sweat Mazzz says he won’t allow it to continue if he doesn’t fight, don’t take those shots
Cane with a takedown, Mazz is looking to stop the fight, Ben is still working for a walll walk IT IS ALL OVER GNP, Ben ask why, cuz you got whooped and warned, Rogan says he disagree’s with the call, says Ben was getting to his feet,,,,,,,,,,,,Crowd is booing (its Cali) Cane won this fight believe it but ben could have went longer 58 seconds of rd 2
Cain says that the fight could have kept going on longer, Ben was getting up and strong………… Wants to keep growing as a fighter and get better
wow…more proof that the UFC heavyweights are the best in the world…WOW.
wow nice commentary
80% of fans think the main event will end in a Knockout… I will play by play (or attempt to for the main event)
i say ud for machida
Cain is Da MAN!!! I hope the ufc keep Ben around
Cain should be looking at a shoot at the HWT soon
Joe Rogan says that Lyoto is soooo good that he is like a comic book character……. Joe justifies Rua’s title shot by saying he is a wild man and is a honest threat to Lyoto…. Joe says that it was THE Shogun Rua that we saw v Liddell….
Lyoto is Lyoto being the Champion is my dream……
Rua comes into the octagon in old Chute Box (techno) style.. Joe says this is the biggest fight of Shogun’s career….
(Goldberg’s punches in bunches thoughts are well just annoying me rightnow)
Lyoto comes into a song his father made it sounds like…. Lyoto doing a Kata and with Japanese chant behind it, Anderson comes in with Lyoto his dad and his brother, now into Linkin Park song (Thow it away?) they, Joe says that his dad raised his son to literally be a killer..
Machida Karate…..
Joe says that it is a concern for Shogun that Lyoto is sooooo calm and with a bow Lyoto enters the octagon……
Bruce does what he does that is a simple observation
Only ONE will leave the Champion……
CSAC names being put out there…
Head ref Herb Dean
Lyoto is having a talk with Dean and pointing something out don’t know that it is but Lyoto is asking for something and is now yelling towards Dean like WTF style…

this is a robbery
Dana tells Rua “you won that fight”, joe says immediate rematch is needed…
I personally saw Rua winning this bout and I hope that they do rematch
Thanks for your comments dude. im stuck at work and cant watch the fight
i hope shogun dont gas
And where did Machida’s famed elusiveness go to?
Rua’s teeing off on Machida like he owes him money. I’m also wondering if Machida’s zen calm has been shattered by finally losing rounds in his MMA career…
LMAO
And I’m not even trying to score this fight, its like something out of an old grainy Vale Tudo VHS tape from the early 90’s…
Shogun is BRINING IT
BULL$HIT!!!!!!!!!
BULL$HIT!!!!!!!! SHOGUN WON, FU*KIN BULL$HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good commentary thanks… wish i could have seen it sounds like i lost that bet
Did it cross either guy’s mind that this thing might not have to go to a decision if someone tried for a takedown?
Good point. Shogun started to but got stuffed. Both should’ve done more.
Machida appeared to land more punches and attacked with knees in muay thai clinch — that is what is getting overlooked.
Absolutely shocking, robbery
WTF!!!! Machida won? what fight did they see?
I think Shogun clearly won the fight. It wasnt an extremely dominating performance but he was the clear winner IMO.
wow what
I wonder what rounds did they give Machida. I think the most rounds you could give to Machida would be two rounds, which is what I gave him.
Even if Rua didn’t win the fight, he certainly destroyed Machida’s aura of so-called invincibility…
Wow this was one of the worst results i’ve seen. Clearly Shogun won damage inflicted, won in strikes, won in octagon control. Where does Machida win?
JUST LIKE i YEAS MARVELKNIGHT CALLED IT, SHOGUN WON THAT FIGHT, ABSOLOUTELY FUC*KINF BULL$HIT! IF MACHIDA IS A REAL “SAMUAI” THEN HE WOULD HAVE GAVE SHOGUN THE BELT, BULL$HIT , FU*KING BULL$HIT!!!!!!!!!
The UFC is loosing credability with these outrageous discions in favor for their favorite fighters. This is the first fight in a long time I didnt purchase on PPV because Machida is just not a fun fighter to watch any decision would go his way. Unbelievable!
U do realize that with the decision that the UFC loses zero crediability, you might ask why,,,,, it is simply the UFC doesn’t employ the Judges at any UFC event the CSAC employed the judges and the refs com’on man stop trying to say that the decision was ZUFFA or the UFC’s problem….
I am a purist that says in order to be the champ you have to beat the champ, but that was a horrible call. Shogun clearly won rounds 2,4,and 5, and in my opinion also won round 1. Worst call this side of Hamill-Bisping.
REALLY who scored that fight ? Machida’s Dad, mom, and brother ?????????? SERIOUSLY Shougun Won that fight Look at Lyoto’s Legs, Body, And Lip and look at shogun
I’d have been embarassed if I was Machida, having to stand in front of that crowd knowing i’d clearly lost the fight.
That was such a disciplined performance from Shogun, he made Machida look so normal.
Can’t believe I sat up to the early hours just to watch Shogun get robbed. I genuinely feel bad for him.
Usually when there is a contraversial decision, we hear both side of the argument is there anyone that thinks Machida won this?
That’s a good point i’d be interested in seeing anyones argument for the result.
Heres some support for machida. 1. Besides the mui tai kicks, wat did shogun ever impose on machida. 2. Did anything that shogun throw ever stumble machida. 3. Why did the commentators not say squat about shogun eating knees to the face? One just wonders…
yes Machida stuffed takedowns, blocked and dodged a lot of those “body shots” Rogan kept claiming, landed more strike volume, when you combine kicks, knees, and punches. Did more aggressive attacking (muay thai clinch). At worst a draw. It’s easy to see leg kicks and listen to Rogan (who really never does a good job calling a fight). It’s hard to see the other points.
the only way i can see machida winning this is because of all the counter striking he was doing…
while rua threw more strikes and did connect with alot of viscious blows machida seemed to have a higher % of actually making contact…
machida did manage to stuff rua’s take down attempts… all of what 2-3 of them, but it adds up…
personally i scored the fight rounds 1245 for rua and 3 for machida… and i wanted machida to win…
but i can see how the judges called it… although i would have though it to at least be a split decision…
i still think rua was robbed a lil… but at least he showed what he is capable of… question now is who is next? who should be the next contender?
The next contender should be Rua again.
Dana like everyone else knows the judges decision was sh!t, and I can’t think of a better way of sending that message loud and clear throughout all of MMA than to re-sign an immediate rematch for 109…
My hats off to Cain, great job tonight.. Sorry to Shogun, man that has to really hurt to know you won and they rob you of the win. Excellent performance, and great gameplan against The Dragon. Stupid judges. Great card though, looking forward to The Truth climbing the ladder !
Elusiveness my A$$
Shogun got robbed ,
mmmm only if they scored points to Machida for stoping the takedowns
well i guess i called it
I would be embarrassed if I were Machida. Hopefully, he doesn’t boast about this “win”
Sorry. I immediately thort shogun majo ud. JOKE
Shogun was definitely robbed of that fight. Machida knows in his mind that he didn’t “win” that fight. Shogun had a counter for Machida’s offensive attack. He made Machida pay with nice leg kicks when he would attempt to escape. He pressed the fight and you could definitely “SEE” the damage that Shogun did to Machida (e.g. legs iced b/w rounds, serious welts on the ribs, cuts on the face). Shogun seemed to have Machida’s timing down. Shogun didn’t need to have his legs iced in between rounds and he definitely wasn’t cut.
Shogun won that fight–he’s the PEOPLE’S LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!!!
This is why we quit watching Boxing. All respect to both fighters however, everyone who watched that fight knows that SHOGUN won that fight. I wonder how much the judges got paid for judging this one.
I went into this fight hoping for Machita to win but after watching the fight I was sad that he didn’t Win but glad for SHOGUN and then heard the official announcementm syraight BULLSH**.
This isn’t a post supporting Machida’s getting the decision, this is a post trying to explain how the judges could have made so grievous an error.
The only thing I can possibly think of is that the judges were so stunned to see Machida hit so hard and so frequently, round after round, that they simply couldn’t mentally process what was unfolding in the cage in front of them, and thus voted more out of habit than from what dropped in the cage.
Machida’s aura of invincibility may have won him an unearned decision, but the bloom is definitely off of the rose, and from here on out every 205er knows that Machida is just another good MMA fighter, and not the GSP of 205ers…
he still could be the GSP of 205… time will tell, but there is more now than ever a big huge target painted on his head…
i think the reason why machida wasnt so dominating in his performance is the added attention of being a champion has on him
Well, yes there was the added attention of being the champion, but I tend to think the reason Machida didn’t look dominating tonight was because Rua kicked the living sh!t out of him for 4 of the 5 rounds of the fight…
Simply put, the reason he wasn’t dominating was because he was dominated by Shogun.
I know its late, and we’re all tired and/or drunk, but lets try to avoid libelous posts inferring any wrongdoing, aside from the horrendous decision.
Those sorts of posts put Kris in an awkward position, and we don’t want to make any extra work for our mod squad, do we?
cain Velasquez was so dominant over rothwell that even though the stoppage was arguably early it was still A GOOD ONE. What ever argument you might make over the stoppage, it’s hard to make a case for the damage that no doubt would have ensued
give rothwell as a prize to the tuf 10 winner – and we’ll see who’s TUF…
