Frankie Edgar was campaigning for a title shot earlier this year, and now that he’s defeated the highly regarded Urijah Faber, he’s doing so again.
Edgar worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Faber at UFC Fight Night 66 earlier today, in a bout which showcased the featherweight’s vaunted boxing, footwork and wrestling once again.
Following the victory, which was the former lightweight champ’s fourth straight, Edgar relayed to FOX Sports 1 the following (quotes via FOX Sports press release):
“Yes,” said Edgar, when asked if he believes the victory should put him next in line for a title shot. “I just beat one of the best guys who does our sport for five rounds.”
And in terms of his strategy to defeat Faber? Who moved up from 135 to face the promotion’s # ranked featherweight?
“I knew I had to push the pace and be one step ahead of him. I knew he was going to come to fight.”
Depending on what happens at UFC 189 on July 11th, when champion Jose Aldo takes on Conor McGregor, one would think Edgar is likely next in line no?
