Although Jessica Eye is set to face top contender Miesha Tate next, the bantamweight has her sites set on a fight with champion Ronda Rousey, and at a particular venue…
Eye is booked to face Tate on July 25th at UFC on FOX 16, which will pit the #5 ranked 135ér against the #2 positioned bantamweight respectively. Of course, Tate has been defeated by Cat Zingano and Rousey (twice), but thanks to a three fight winning streak, she remains entrenched in the title shot mix.
Tate has also drawn praise for showcasing a diversified game during that time, but Eye recently told “The MMA Road Show” that she’s confident she can beat “Cupcake” anywhere (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“There’s no way Miesha goes into that fight winning, at all,” Eye said. “I don’t see any way that she can beat me – and not because she’s not good, but because I’m just better.”
How about that? If Eye does defeat Tate, then “Evil” could very well advance to a title shot, assuming of course, Cris “Cyborg’s” not in the picture. Rousey is also set to fight in near future, as the renowned fighter will battle Bethe Correia on August 1st.
Eye not only wants to fight Rousey, but she wants to battle “Rowdy” in one of the planet’s most famous venues.
“Madison Square Garden, baby,” Eye said.” “Me and Ronda Rousey. Come on now. Brunette vs blonde. Tough girl vs. tougher girl. I feel like it just makes sense.”
Of course, seeing any MMA fight go down in MSG would be fantastic, and Rousey-Eye would be an interesting one to watch. Lots, however, has to take place before that’s possible,
UFC on FOX 16 will be hosted by Chicago’s United Center, and in the headliner, bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw will take on Renan Barao.
Rousey-Correia, meanwhile, will headline UFC 190 which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
