If you need a vivid example of how fast things can change in MMA, look no further than what’s unfolded in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division in recent months. In January, most folks believed that Alexander Gustafsson would defeat Anthony Johnson at UFC on FOX 14, and in doing so, advance to a rematch with Jon Jones. Everyone understood that Johnson is extremely dangerous, but the consensus was that “The Mauler” had the necessary tools to win the title shot eliminator.
Well, here we are a few months later, and Johnson, instead of “The Mauler”, is fighting for the title on May 23rd. Not only that, but Johnson is fighting Daniel Cormier, after Jones was recently stripped of the title. Now that’s what you call a significant change in the light-heavyweight landscape.
