Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller Set for UFC 109 in February
Middleweights Demian Maia and Dan Miller will return to the Octagon in February, squaring off in a featured contest at UFC 109 on February 6 in Las Vegas, according to MMA Madness.
Maia (11-1) won five-straight bouts to begin his UFC career, including wins over Jason MacDonald, Nate Quarry, and Chael Sonnen, pushing his undefeated record to 11-0, but suffered a first-round knockout to fellow 185-pound contender Nate Marquart in August at UFC 102.
Miller (11-2), the former IFL middleweight champ, is also coming off a loss in his most-recent fight, dropping a unanimous decision to Chael Sonnen in May. He had previously won three-straight UFC bouts over Rob Kimmons, Matt Horwich, and Jake Rosholt.
The yet-unannounced UFC 109 card is expected to feature Matt Hughes, as well as a possible matchup between Matt Serra and Frank Trigg.

I’m actually a fan of this match, imo Miller has his work cut out for him…
Completely off topic (apologies) but Hendo is close to signing multi fight deal with strike-force….awesome news for so many reasons if goes through….oh yea, and Maia by sub round 2.
I’ll be posting a story on this in the morning, but Hendo and his camp have come out to say that no deal, with the UFC or Strikeforce, is imminent, that he’s yet to receive an offer from Strikeforce, and that he still hopes to re-sign with the UFC.
Nice… thanks
Maia is gonna sub this guy easier than he did Sonnen IMO.
Maia by sub 2nd round, i’m gonna say by arm bar.
7 out of 11 of sonnens losses come buy submission while Dan has never been subbed and 7 out of 11 of his wins come by subs. So I dont realy see your reasoning there.
But ya Maia sub round 2.;)
lol, yeah i know, but Miller lost against Sonnen if i’m correct and i wasn’t trying to knock on miller, i’m just saying Maia is that good on the ground from what i’ve seen.
Maia via devastating knockout
This is gonna be a ground fight which Maia should win but Miller can score a tko if he keeps the fight standing, but Maia via sub, he’s too good on the gorund and i think he’s learned his lesson with Nate about not trying to striker.
Easy “W” for Maia. No disrespect to Miller but Maia is on a higher level at this point of their careers.
1st Rd RNC
I’m a big fan of both of these guys. Miller has good subs but nothing that’ll get Maia. I’ll take the safe pick, Maia by sub rd 1, but I hope it’s a technical ground war
No way more than 50 punches will be thrown in this fight, which will be re-named “grapple-palooza”.
Unfortunately for Miller, he’s good, but he’s not Maia good.
Maia by 3rd round submission…
Im with ya on the late sub but im thinkin 2nd round. When he fought macdonald it was a late 3rd round sub but i think that was due to Jason’s size aswell as his ground ability. Miller is good to but will get hooked sooner IMO.
I would like to see Maia face someone else, a little more highly ranked. I know Maia just got knocked out, but Maia other wins were so impressive that I would like to see Maia against someone like Bisping, or Okami.
Just as an FYI, in a theoretical Miller-Bisping fight, I’d probably take Miller, because Bisping while being a quality stand-up fighter is just sh!t-awful on the ground.
Okami would be a good fight, but the guy is injury-prone, so who knows when he’ll be ready to go against top-shelf fighters.
Turst me, this is a good fight for Maia, and when he wins he’ll be right back in the 185 title picture…
I think Miller is good enough to keep it on the feet if he wants. I say he grinds out a UD and upsets Maia. Neither Miller bro has ever been finished and as great as Maia is, I don’t see him controlling the fight. Go Dan!
