Alexander Gustafsson’s 2015 campaign has suffered another setback, as the UFC has announced that the light-heavyweight has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout with fellow contender, Glover Teixeira.
The two were supposed to fight in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 69, which go down in Berlin, Germany. In the UFC’s official announcement, the promotion relayed that there is “currently no further information on Gustafsson’s injury or a confirmed date for his return.”
The card already has a new main event, however, as strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (9-0) will battle Jessica Penne (12-2). Jedrzejczyk is coming off an impressive, stoppage win over now former champ Carla Esparza in March, while Penne scored a split decision over Randa Markos in December, in what marked her official UFC debut. Penne was booked to fight Juliana De Lima Carneiro on May 30th, but obviously that fight’s no longer a go.
So, there you have it. It’s certainly an unfortunate development for Gustafsson, who was looking to get back on track after being taken out by Anthony Johnson in January.
