Carlos ConditWelterweight contenders Carlos Condit and Paul Daley are expected to meet at UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the contest, and formal contracts are in the works, according to a report from FightersOnly.

Condit (24-5), the WEC’s final 170-pound champ, dropped his UFC debut to Martin Kampmann in April but bounced back in September at UFC Fight Night 19 with a split decision win over Jake Ellenberger.

Daley (22-8-2) is riding a three-fight win streak that includes a first-round knockout of Kampmann at UFN 19 last month.

No props for the original source?

Koscheck must be letting out a huuuge sigh of relief knowing he doesn’t have to fight daley!

This is a great matchup. Condit can take a punch but imo he was in danger of being stopped a couple of times in his last fight. He’s got sick jj and should take this fight to the ground.

With his win over kampann, i think daley has exploded into the ww division and could be a threat to my boy gsp’s title. He;s new to the octagon but not new to the game and if condit decides to stand with him he’s getting ktfo.

I’m dissapointed because i felt daley should have gotten koscheck. He’ll probably get hughes like he and the other girls at aka were asking for. DAna white is babysitting the aka ww’s dude.

  • This should be a very interesting fight. I am a fan of both guys but The Natural Born Killer has been my boy since his days in the WEC os i’ll be rooting for him.

This is Condit’s chance to move up into Contender status but he had better not make the mistakes that Kampmann made by trading shots with someone as strong and as powerful as Paul Daley or else he’ll find out very quick that Paul Daley is no Jake Ellenberger.

One thing that Paul Daley has shown is that he can sometimes get reckless and gas out. Condi needs to for sure take this fight to the ground and not even play with the stand-up, it’s too risky because if a guy like Kampmann who has a super good chin couldn’t take Daley’s punches than i’m sure neither will Condit. Yeah Condit might also have a good chin but you can only take so many punhces before eventually going down, if not ask Chris Leben and Rampage, two guys with very solid chins.

Paul Daley doesn’t have as good of a ground game as Condit, not even close so Condit should just make no bones about it and try to go for the sub the way Jakes Shields did Daley. I feel that on the ground Condit is too good for Daley to handle but to be fair if Condit showed anything in his fight with Jake Ellenberger is that the dude sometimes does not fight smart, Ellenberger was about two solid punches away from scoring a ko against Condit and Condit still wanted to trade, but if he does that with Daley he’s going to sleep.

Condit should come in knowing that Daley is very confident and has some momentum on his side after beating Martin Kampmann who was prooblably the #1 Contender and Condit should just play this one smart.

Paul Daley’s obvious best bet is to keep the fight standing. I would suggest he just work on his takedown defense and cardio because someone like Condit likes to push the pace and if Daley can’t keep up he’ll gas and get submitted. If Daley can aboid takedowns and possibly subs than he has a great advantage. If Condit decides to strike, Daley better try and finish him fast bevfore Condit realizes that he indeed is in danger of getting ko’d. I would be very surprised if Condit stands and beats Daley standing but it’s possible because Condit is a well rounded dude with decent kicks and just an all around sick game.

I think that if Daley wins this fight he’ll problably be next in line for a title shot maybe even Condit given the way things have been lately with title shots but this should be a very sick fight and this is a big opportunity for both guys to announce their arrival to contention at 170.

Condit via sub in the 2nd

    • carls says:

Sure take the safe pick Marvel.;)

In all seriousness ive got Daley in this one. The guy is explosive and has semtex in his hands ;) and if given the opportunity will put anyone to sleep at 170. Kampaman IMO has one of the best chins at WW and even he couldnt quite handle Daleys power. While Condit is no slouch or glass jawed, he showed in the Ellenburger fight that he can get rocked and dropped. And Daley hits just as hard and twice as often. Of course Paul is about as effective off his back as a nun, but his takedown dfence is not bad, and Condit isnt a TD speacialist by any means. Hes seems to be better in the scrambles and catching guys off guard. So Daley will have to be very carefull as to not get over zealous and wind up in Condits comfort Zone.

With all that Daley 1st round KO

  • Figs says:

Sick match-up! I like Condit in this one, but Daley has demonstrated on many occasions that he’s got two bricks at the end of his wrists. I still see this bout similar to how Daley/Shields went.

  • Drew1313 says:

a bit off topic , but does anyone else think that Fitch needs some tougher fights like maybe…alves…swick or kos…ext….not saying he isnt talented just seems he fights alot of mediocre fighters…thoughts?

    • Figs says:

I think Almeida at 170 is a good matchup for him. This will be his ww debut, and if he’s going straight to the title, he needs to get past Fitch.

As for Alves, they already fought and Fitch one, but I’d personally like to see the re-match as it has been 3 years. As for Kos, they are training partners (aswell as Swick) so it puts a tampor on 3 contenders fighting eachother right there.

I don’t think it has been that he has fought mediocre fighters as much as it has been he has fought tough fighters, with mediocre names.

  • Drew1313 says:

before anyone states the obvious yes i know he fought GSP…..im just sayin, how many top tens has he fought?…..

  • carls says:

    @Drew
yes Fitch should be fighting Alves, but the problem with Fitch right now is I dont think the UFC is in any hurry of giving him another shot at the belt. So buy throwing medeocre competitiion at him it keeps him from getting that big win that he needs to say “hey i deserve another shot” But a fight with Arona should not be over looked the guy is super tough with a great ground game and will likely take Jon to a tough dec, again. It will likely play out similar to the Thiago fight but with a bit more striking. We allready know why hes not fighting Kos, and Swick. Also if he was to fight Alves again I think hed get beat up. I realy dont see Jon being able to take Alves down since Josh couldnt and in a stsand up fight hed get put away without question. Wich would then give Alves the opportunity to say “I deserve another shot” Which again is a little ways off. I see the UFC trying to give Kos a title shot before them. Which is also why they are hyping up to undeserving fighters for a #1 contender matchup. I think if Kos had KOed Paulo and not got injured back in the summer he would be on his way to a title shot. The guy faired the best against GSP and the UFC would use that to hype the fight for sure.

    • Jazzkok says:

      Well said Carls,

But i doubt the UFC will give kos a shot before swick or fitch. They are CLEARLY trying to get swick his one more win to the shot and they are honestly just handing it to him. Swick vs Hardy? I like hardy so no offense but a decision win over marcus davis ranked #9 in the ufc ww’s isn’t anywhere near good enough to get a title shot.
Also fitch has been winning but the guy has never really been that impressive. Even before his title shot he was taking guys to decision. I like fitch and think he’s a tough fighter but imho not good enough to be at the top and stay there.

Daley imo should have gotten swick since swick was to fight kampann. It made perfect sense, but like i said, swick is taking the pony express to the GSP station where he’s going to get ran over!

      • carls says:

Jazz thanks for the props dude.

But belive me if Kos keeps winning he will get a shot at GSP before Fitch gets his second, guaranteed. Like even people who dont like Kos would rather see him fight GSP before Fitch. The UFC knows this and will book that fight as long as Josh keeps KOing guys. Hopefully he gets someone a bit higher ranked next time. I do agree that Swick is getting all the UFC’s attention right now for what ever reason, He11 he was even on the cover of Fighter magazine last month if im not mistaken. Someone said Kos and Kampman would be a good fight a while back and I agree.

      • jazzkok says:

        @Carls,

Yeah dude i see your point. Kos vs “the hitman” would be sick and make sense too. You’re right though, kos will surely get a shot before fitch but not swick unless hardy wins. Kos definately needs “tougher” more “top tier” competition because he’s kind of ovverrated imo. The way things are in the ufc’s “rankings”, and given the state of the ww division it doesn’t really matter who’s winning, how they’re winning and who they’re winning against, if it will be “marketable” and make money, then that’s who’s going to fight.

Whoever gets a shot, GSP will destroy them though!

  • chrisl says:

Sick fight, however if Daley isn’t careful it could end being a repeat of the fight with Shields. Except Condit is a much better striker than Shields.

  • mmaman says:

YES Condit is the s***. I love watching him fight. This is gonna be a good one. I wish they had this for the Ult Finale so we could watch it for free. 2 great up and cummers it should be shown for FREE!!!

  • jcohl says:

First, we should give props to Dana White, Joe Silva, and whoever else in the UFC front office had a hand in signing this fight.
Really good striker/grappler type affair IMO, and whoever imposes their will gets the win, because neither fighter is good enough to play in his opponent’s yard for very long, if you follow.

Second, we’re always talking about how deep the 205 division is, but seriously how many talented guys does the UFC have at 170?
It’s sick, but this thing could have Fight of the Night written all over it…

  • nickageb says:

Loved watchin Condit in WEC, he hasn’t looked as dominant in the UFC but still good. I’ll be rootin for Condit here but I expect Daley to get it.

  • Vinz_Clortho says:

Daley is awesome.. still I think that the Kampmann stoppage was early. He looked rocked but, meh. I hope Daley does well in the UFC the guy has been an exciting fighter for quite some time.. it would be fun to see him and GSP duke it out.. although GSP would rape him on the ground and probably throw him around like a girl a little bit :D

This should be a good test to see if Daley has improved his ground game.

  • mma505 says:

Let’s not forget Condit is back in Albuquerque and is training at Jackson’s Gym. Greg will come up with a great game plan and won’t let Carlos make stupid mistakes. He’ll take Daley down and sub him. Carlos takes this one.
