If you missed it last night, you’re waking up to a world where Jon Jones is no longer UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion…

Yes, late on Tuesday, the promotion announced that it has suspended Jones indefinitely and stripped him of the light-heavyweight crown, just weeks before he was set to fight Anthony Johnson, The move was made in response to Jones’ recent arrest on felony hit-and-run charges.

UFC boss man Dana White appeared on “UFC Tonight” to discuss the promotion’s decision, and when asked what “Bones” should do next, he stated (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“He should focus on his pending legal matters.”

White also relayed that Jones was “upset” by the UFC’s decision, and when asked about the move to have Daniel Cormier fight Johnson on May 23rd for the vacant title, he stated:

“Anthony Johnson just beat Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier went five rounds with Jones. So it’s number one vs. number two, in my opinion.”

Since all this began unfolding this past weekend, Jones hadn’t said anything publicly about his arrest, and walked through the media after he posted bail on Monday. On Tueday night, however, the following tweet appeared on Jones’ Twitter account:

So, now it will be interesting to see how all this plays out in court, and what the UFC elects to do moving forward. Jones is facing up to three years in prison as a result of the felony charge he’s been handed.

The 27 year-old fighter is coming off a decision win over Cormier in January, but following the victory over his rival, it was revealed “Bones” had tested positive for cocaine leading up to the fight. Jones has defended the light-heavyweight title a record 8 times.
