Demetrious Johnson’s decision to go for a late, late finish tonight at UFC 186 may have scored the flyweight champ an extra $50,000.
Johnson was well on his way to a decision win over Kyoji Horiguchi in the card’s headliner, but with one second left, he pounced on an armbar and recorded the tap-out. Following the event, the promotion confirmed that Johnson earned a “Performance of the Night” and $50K for the victory.
The other “POTN” went to Thomas Almeida, who put away bantamweight Yves Jabouin with punches in the opening round.
The card’s “Fight of the Night” was awarded to lightweights Bryan Barberena and Chad Laprise, who went at it for three rounds. The latter won the entertaining bout via unanimous decision.
UFC 186 went down at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
