I’m thinking here that Tompkins is thinking that Couture is probably got MAYBE a year left of active competition, and then he’ll want to focus on being a trainer.
TUF 1 showed us that Couture, with his demeanor, experience, and gravitas in the sport will make an excellent MMA trainer, so Tompkins rightfull figured it was time to move on, and try as he says to “promote the Team Tompkins” brand.
He was considered an excellent trainer in the IFL, and has done masterwork at Xtreme Couture.
I’m sure that he’ll do well, and Xtreme Couture will continue to attract the biggest and brightest names in MMA…
I know a ton of people who trained under and with Tompkins, and this is not a huge loss. Tompkins is a good coach, as in he will get you in shape and pick which fighters will be the speedbags for his other fighters (gym feeders). I am confident Xtreme Couture will do fine without him.
This is really interesting, I wonder who goes with him and who will decide to stay….
Yeah, I’m interested to see who stays and goes too.
Nice move by Tompkins he leaves working with wrinkled up old Randy Couture to training his former better half Kim Sugar Free Couture at Tapout’s gym.
“Wrinkled up?!
And we should not be laughing at you why exactly?
I guess if you would like to roll around with Randy instead of Kim then go ahead and laugh it up.
big blow for extreme Couture
big deal imo – hes a 0-4 occ fighter – easily replaced
