In the opening bout of UFC 186, top-ranked women’s strawweight Randa Markos won a three-round decision over Ireland’s Aisling Daly.
Markos landed hard right hands in the opening moments of the bout that exploited a clear speed and technique advantage that Markos had on the feet. However, the rest of the fight would play out in ground exchanges that showcased both women’s grappling skills.
Markos scored several takedowns via her headlock takedown in rounds two and three, but Daly picked up momentum in the second round after escaping an arm-triangle attempt. Daly cut Markos open above the left eye with some brutal elbows. However it was Markos who battled through and displayed a dominant round three after reversing a Daly takedown and landing in mount.
The scores read unanimous for the Canadian, Randa Markos, who now picks up her first UFC win.
