Lightweights Shane Roller and Danny Castillo will square off on the main card of WEC 44 on November 18 in Las Vegas, the promotion announced during Saturday’s WEC 43 broadcast.
Roller (6-2) is 3-1 in four WEC bouts, losing only to Ben Henderson while earning wins over Todd Moore, Mike Budnik, and Marcus Hicks.
Castillo (8-1) dropped his WEC debut to Donald Cerrone last June, but has rebounded to win three-straight over Rafael Dias, Phil Cardella, and Ricardo Lamas.

Maybe its just me, but I tend to think when I see a fight like this signed, is it as much a 155 fight to determine WEC contendership, or is it almost a “tryout” of sorts for the UFC 155 division?
Eventually the UFC will fold the WEC brand into their own, and when they do they probably aren’t going to take the full WEC 155 roster, due to overlap.
While men like Varner, Cerrone, and Henderson are pretty much assured a UFC roster spot, the futures of men like Roller and Castillo is much less certain.
I wonder if that plays on the minds of some of the WEC 155ers, or if its a non-issue? Its all good for the 135ers and 145ers, and maybe even the 125ers if Dana White is so inclined to have a UFC flyweight title, but the 155 overlap is sort of out there like the proverbial elephant in the room.
I know if I fought at 155, and in the WEC, I’d be wondering about my future, and not just my next fight…
