Conor McGregor continues to demonstrate he’s a master in the fine and lucrative art of making bold statements, as the featherweight has said he would “kill” Floyd Mayweather if they ever fought…
Now sure, people who are actually knowledgeable about fighting, have long understood that MMA fighters will school boxers nine times out of ten (yes, in a MMA fight…). But, there are a still a lot of mainstream folks who don’t really understand this. Particularly when you’re talking about the one of the best boxers in recent memory, who, it should be noted, is set to fight in one of the biggest bouts ever, on May 2nd.
So what did McGregor say exactly? Well, recently the 26 year-old fighter was interviewed by Esquire Magazine, and while discussing his own abilities, “Notorious” reportedly stated the following:
“I don’t look at a man who’s expert in one area as a specialist,” McGregor said. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing’s best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”
There you have it. The entire story is an interesting read, so if you’re not McGregor-ed out yet, you might want to take a look.
McGregor, who is coming off a stoppage win over Dennis Siver in January, is booked to fight champion Jose Aldo on July 11th at UFC 189. The card will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Mr. Mayweather, meanwhile, is set to make a ridiculous amount of money on May 2nd, as he’ll face fellow boxing star, Manny Pacquiao.
