If you, like many others, were super pumped to hear the news that Matt Brown would face Nate Diaz next, well, you may want to sit down…

Not long ago, the UFC announced that the welterweight scrap would be part of UFC 189, on July 11th. The fight was widely viewed as another sweet addition to an already stacked event. Not long after, however, Diaz told MMA Fighting that the UFC had never, officially negotiated the fight with him, although the lightweight said he was interested in facing Brown. Then, in a follow up interview with the outlet, Diaz said he felt like he was being “forced” into the fight.

Well, if your ‘this isn’t going to happen’ alarm’s been sounding, it looks like it was right. Recently, the following tweets appeared on Brown’s official Twitter account:

So, there you have it. None of this should come as too big of a surprise, as Diaz has made it pretty clear in the last year or so that he isn’t overly happy with his contract and his employers. Now it will be interesting to see what UFC boss man Dana White has to say about all this, and when and who Diaz will fight next.

The outspoken fighter is coming off a one sided, UD loss to new lightweight champ, Rafael dos Anjos in December. Prior to that, back in November, 2013, Diaz stopped Gray Maynard in the opening round. The 29 year-old is 1-3 in his last 4 bouts.

Brown, meanwhile, is looking to get back on track after being decisioned by Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler in consecutive fights. The vet is currently ranked #5 in the UFC’s 170 division.
