UFC on FOX 16 already has three, big name fights booked, including a long awaited and twice postponed rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao.
On Tuesday, the UFC announced the two will meet at the July 25th event, which will be hosted by Chicago’s United Center.
As you likely recall, originally, Dillashaw and Barao (33-2) were supposed to fight again last August, but the latter had a disastrous weight cut and was pulled from UFC 177. Then, more recently, they were supposed to fight at UFC 186 later this month, but Dillashaw had to pull out due to injury.
In their initial scrap, Dillashaw (11-2) laid claim to the bantamweight title by stopping the renowned fighter in round five. Barao returned to action in December and submitted Mitch Gagnon. The former champ is the #1 contender.
In addition, UFC on FOX 16 will see former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis throw down with Myles Jury.
Pettis (18-3) lost the belt in December, when he was outscored by Rafael dos Anjos and was defeated by unanimous decision.
Jury (15-1) is looking to rebound from his first, official defeat, as fellow contender Donald Cerrone handed him a decision loss in January. Pettis is currently ranked #1 and Jury is sitting at #8.
And, if that wasn’t enticing enough, the UFC has also announced that Miesha Tate will take on fellow, bantamweight contender Jessica Eye at the upcoming card.
Tate decisioned Sara McMann in her last outing, which went down at UFC 183 in January. She’s currently ranked #2.
Eye (11-2), on the other hand, handed Leslie Smith a TKO loss in November at UFC 180. The bantamweight is positioned at #6.
