Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Scheduled For Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou has now been named as Gegard Mousasi’s opponent for his previously reported non-title fight at November 7th’s “Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Rogers” event. MMAFanhouse reports that the contest has been submitted to Illinois’ athletic commission, along with the previously reported Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Silva contest.

The contest is a rebooking of a scheduled Dream 11 bout which was called off due to Mousasi suffering a shoulder injury in an exhibition grappling match against Fedor Emelianenko.

Mousasi won the Strikeforce light heavyweight title in his last fight by defeating Renato “Babalu” Sobral on August 15 via first round knockout. He has put together a 26-2 MMA record including wins over Ronaldo Souza, Mark Hunt, Denis Kang, Hector Lombard, and Melvin Manhoef.

Sokoudjou recently defeated Bob Sapp, who replaced Mousasi, at Dream 11 in the second round of the Dream Super Hulk Tournament. He has a 7-4 MMA career including a 1-2 stint in the UFC, where he lost to Lyoto Machida and Luiz Arthur Cane.

can’t believe I don’t have to pay for this card…

  • I rhink rhia will arguably be Strikeforce’s best card ever, i can’t wait to check it out

  • swankcm says:

this is one of the best mma cards ever, my question is strikeforce are throwin all there top fighters on one card what are they going to do 2 months later?? I think on a business stand point it will be good cause people will see a lot of great fighters on mainstream tv but to have everyone of your best fighters fighting in one event?? It’s tough but being a huge fan I will have my beer and be sitting couch side

  • swankcm says:

on a side note I think Soko will get destroyed just like my boy babalu did! but shields, mousasi, fedor, werdum all winners in this one!

  • Eldiablo says:

Ok so now I’m seriously considering driving the 10 hours to see this card live.

  • White_Boy says:

This is getting to be a good card, with arguably the greatest mix martial artist in the game on this FREE card, but it seems that CBS is relying on the “hardcore fans” to carry it. If they don’t push this thing a little more, it’s going to get ratings significantly lower than the last Kimbo fight on CBS. Other than the people that train MMA and post/follow on fine sites such as this, there aren’t a lot of people that give 2 cents to watch Fedor, even for free. Some advertising is needed to get casual fans to want to watch or this may be the last time we see Fedor or SF for that matter for free.

  • ufcmanz says:

I’m going with Mousasi as well, but I’m not going to count out Sokoudjou, specially because you have to weather his 1-2 minute Blizz in the first round, look at Arona or Lil Nog.

  • swankcm says:

that was a long time ago ufcmanz, I’m not sayin he isn’t good but when he came on the seen he had that hunger, he was relentless with his striking, when he came to the ufc and got sub’d my lyoto and knocked out my cane it almost looked like he got timid and lost that hunger in my opinion, but he is still young plenty of time to grow

  • swankcm says:

and i know 2 yrs isn’t that long but I meant by the way he is fighting

  • bottumzup says:

I just read a previously announced bout featuring Bobby Lashley has been moved to a later date. Is this true?

  • swankcm says:

I am not positive but it is just rumored that he is going to be fighting against Ron Waterman on the strike force card nov 7th but nothing has been confirmed yet but I am sure Justin or FR can tell you more about it

  • jcohl says:

Not that I’m complaining, but I’m wondering why this is a non-title bout for Mousasi?
Hopefully because Scott Coker has wised up and is going to stop giving title opportunities to fighters not exclusively signed, but it’s more likely that Sokoudjou hasn’t really earned any sort of contention status in Strikeforce…

  • bigchris2328 says:

dont forget the strikeforce card that had gina-cyborg last month was also supposed to have 4 title fights, and then almost every fight got scrapped for whatever reason. sure this card looks good now, but will it still be set come fight night?

    • fr702 says:

August 15th the original “main” card had

      Carano v Cyborg (womens title)
      Overeem v Werdum (HW belt)
      Diaz v Heiron (WW belt)
      Thomson v Melendez (LW belt)

      The card that happend was

      Carano v Cyborg (womens title)
      Mousasi v Babalu (LHW belt)
Melendez v Ishida (Interim LW belt)
      Werdum v Pyle

that still was a really good card and I actually liked it more becasue the “main event” stayed the same and StrikeForce brought us (the hardcore fan) Babalu v Mousasi, “so come fight night” the Aug 15th card lived up to alot of the hype

  • swankcm says:

I think ur right jchol and the other thing is they really don’t have any competition for him at that weight in strikeforce, babalu is about as good as it’s gonna get comp wise till he hopefully comes the ufc

  • Bzul3 says:

I hope after Mousasi ko’s Soko, he throws in a few good cheap shots afterwards so Soko can get a taste of his own medicine. Soko has done that crap in his last 2 fights and I would love to see it done to him.

  • i just hope that if The African Assasin does score a ko that he stops when the ref stops the fight and doesn’t keep going the way he dide last time, not talkin crap about the dude just sayinf is all :D

  • mannypancakes says:

got tickets,we are about sixty feet away from the ring on the lower level!!

  • love4thedead says:

So if Soko wins he screwed out of the title(not that I think he will win). What’s the point of having champions if they’re not defending, it doesn’t matter if Soko has earned it or not. if you are champion and its that weight class should be for the title imo.

    • Justin says:

I kind of agree with that, but I’m not sure if Soku has a contract with Strikeforce, or is just “on loan” from Dream. If it’s the latter, that is why it’s not for the title.

      • love4thedead says:

I guess that makes sense but still it bothers me now a fighting champion who doesn’t defend. Idk just that they seem to have problems with having anybody defending their titles.

      • fr702 says:

O goodness “champion that doesn’t defend”…. Ok well Soko is on “loan” from FEG (who co promotes with Strikeforce), this is a bout that alot of people wanted to see happen in the “Super Hulk” tourney so Strikeforce is making it happen on the CBS card, helll this might even end up being a “catch weight” bout, noone really knows where Soko’s weight is going to be anyways… Complain all you want about this being non title but honestly when DREAM announced the Super Hulk tourney this is the fight most if not all wanted to see, now you have that opportunity come Nov 7th, its a good thing

      • love4thedead says:

        Fr
I understand that and never said it wouldn’t be a great fight. Ah nevermind I’m fighting a losing battle.l’ll just shut up and the fight:).

      • love4thedead says:

Oops I’ll just shut up and watch the fights :)

      • fr702 says:

I honestly enjoy most comments and opinions, it just has been becoming stale when people talk about champions not defending, doesn’t matter if it is Overeem or aqusastions of Anderson Silva, perhaps I came across as harsh so I apologize..

  • love4thedead says:

Fr no need to apologize its all good :)
