Fabrico Werdum vs. Antonio Silva Added to Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers

Fabricio WerdumHeavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva will square off on November 7 on the CBS-televised main card of Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers, which takes place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois near Chicago.

Despite wins over notables Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera, Werdum (12-4-1) was cut by the UFC last year following an upset loss to Junior dos Santos in October. Werdum bounced back in his Strikeforce debut, submitting Mike Kyle in the opening round of their August bout.

Silva (13-1), the former EliteXC heavyweight champ, will be fighting in the United States for the first time since being suspended for one year last July after testing positive for steroids. “Bigfoot” has won six-straight, including back-to-back wins in Sengoku over Yoshiro Nakao and Jim York.

very interesting fight, i figured bigfoot would be suspended forever in the states due to fighting in japan when he was under the one year suspension. werdum seems to have his hands full with this one.

  • dbiz says:

I would be stunned if Bigfoot was cleared for this fight. It is probably wishful thinking at this point. Although it will be up to the Illinois commission to decide if they will honor California’s ruling on his suspension.

    • Justin says:

Well Chicago politics are completely corrupt, so I wouldn’t be too surprised.

    • Kris Karkoski says:

His suspension’s up. Assume you’re wondering whether they’ll let him fight because he fought overseas while suspended? I think he’ll probably get cleared but we’ll have to wait and see.

      • dbiz says:

I thought I recalled that last time someone ran off to Japan to fight while on suspension, the CSAC started the suspension upon return. Am I mistaken?

      • Kris Karkoski says:

I’m not sure they have or can extend a suspension technically, but they can decline to license a fighter should he fight elsewhere. In this case I’m assuming Strikeforce has already looked into the issue and been given a preliminary go-ahead that Silva will be cleared.

  • bottumzup says:

Very interested in seeing Silva fight again..Still some questions about him though..I hope all the roids didn’t go to his chin or else he’s gonna come in looking like that McDonalds moon-head guy from back in the day..

    • EtherBunny says:

LOL, I believe Mac Tonight is his name.

But I still can’t understand how he is going to be able to be given a license to fight after jumping over to Japan.

      • jcohl says:

I can tell you how he’s going to get licensed.
Pretty much the same way anyone else gets licensed in state/city/county/municipal politics, by knowing someone who knows someone, or by doing someone a solid, or by making sure the right douchbag gets the right sized envelope in order to get your sh!t in order.
        How do I know this?
Because I’ve spent a huge part of my life living and working in and around Las Vegas.
        Thats how…
        ;)

  • Lanny says:

I know Werdum has a lot of momentum from winning his Strikeforce debut and winning in his division at ADCC, but I have to pick Antonio Junior Silva in this one.
The guy if a freak athlete for as large a man as he is.
