I would rather teach the judges how to render a proper decision within the confines of the system they already know, then start worrying about whether or not we change the system. If we change the system, then even the judges that do a decent job now will make mistakes as they adjust. And the judges that are incompetent now and render the wrong decision within the current system because they don’t know how to properly score the sport, will continue to do so because they don’t know how to judge the sport.

Do we need a different system? Possibly. Do we need more educated judges, regardless of the system? Absolutely. Deal with what’s certain first, before you start playing around with the uncertain.

Well clearly the judges are the ones operating the scoring system. I know what you mean, that regardless of the scoring system, a judge can still fook up on the scoring…. but you can’t deny that the scoring system needs an upgrade. Something more inclined with MMA rather than boxing….i’ve seen too many controversial decisions. Something needs to be done regardless.

I think you all know by now that whats good for the sport is always first and foremost my top concern.
This thing in Virginia is getting out of hand, is casting our sport in a poor public light, and the decision was apparently criminally off-point, so yeah, I support bringing in Big John McCarthy to find out whats the what, and how judges can award a 5 round decsion to a man who lost 3 of the 5 rounds…

If the judges were so completely incompetent that you have fighters saying they will never fight in your state again because your commission is inept, and you have MMA Websites that have been pushing for the spread of MMA hoping that you never hold another event in your state unless you make changes, then I think it’s appropriate to overturn the decision.

I don’t like this. Have decisions reversed when something illegal happens, not when someone disagrees with the decision. Why have judges in the first place if they can be overturned? Why not just have judging done by compu-refs from an undisclosed bunker offshore where international laws do not apply?

It’s good that this situation is being remedied. Hopefully they will go beyond just this one fight, however. Contrary to Fightrend’s accusations this was a case of incompetence, and was not the only instance of it at the event.
