I actually respected alot of what Dana said for once. The only thing is he said that Anderson and Lyoto could fight in the future and Anderson made it clear that wouldn’t happen after his first fight at lhw because theyre from the same gym.

He is so right. I can only speak for the UK, but MMA in general and specifically the UFC has snowballed to dramatic levels in the past few years and is surely considered mainstream sport by most already.

4 or 5 years ago you could down the high street with your UFC hoody on and you’d get the odd wink or nod of acknowledement as if to say, yeah I watch that too, like any fan was part of a secret collective like the Mason’s or something but now everyhwere you go it seems like everybody has heard of Chuck Liddell or Randy Couture or various other warriors.

He shouldn’t poke fun at Darts though, Darts is the business.

Great interview. Dana is dead-on. I see kids wearing Tap-Out shirts all the time. ESPN broadcasts poker! Poker is a sport? Poker is mainstream? Once the UFC’s network deal goes down, watch-out!

  • very nice interview, i’ve been watching ROME since i was in highschool, Rome is my boy and i’m glad that Dana adressed everything without holding back.

    Wow.
I kept waiting for the obligatory Dana “F” bomb, but he handled Rome, a top sports interviewer, like a pro.
And not one of his points was off-base.
    Herschel Walker?
    Please.
    Network deal?
When Dana says it isn’t the “right deal”, thats code for “not enough money” and “not enough control over every aspect of the project”, which I agree with him 100% on.
How is some network executive producer-type going to tell Dana Fu<king White how to run his promotion?
If the UFC never appears on network TV, I'm fine with it. CBS is going to embarrass themselves, and the sport, if they try putting Herschel Walker on, so lets hope that fight , regardless of opponent, never gets sanctioned.
I also get a little embarrassed when I have to explain to someone how ESPN, which is supposed to be a sports channel, airs lame sh!t like ping-pong and poker, and with the exception of Bellator on the Ocho remains happily clueless about the greatest sport on Earth…
