UFC FN 63: Al Iaquinta Explains Why he Lashed Out at Crowd

Al Iaquinta

It remains to be seen what fans will recall about the scrap between Jorge Masvidal and Al Iaquinta in the future, but chances are they’ll always remember the latter’s post fight interview.

If you missed UFC Fight Night 63, then you didn’t see Iaquinta work his way to a tightly contested, some would say, controversial split decision win. As soon as the decision was read out, a lot of fans started to boo, and many continued to do so as Iaquinta began his post fight interview.

The feared slugger asked the crowd if they were booing him, and when the boos continued to ring out, Iaquinta sent an f bomb their way…

Well, not surprisingly, Iaquinta was asked about the incident following the card, and here is some of what he had to say (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“Maybe they were booing the judges, but I don’t think there’s any reason to be booing me. I laid it all out there. I took my beating in the first round, and I came back. I think I showed a lot of what I’m made of. It hurts to hear the people booing me. I hope they weren’t booing me. I don’t know what they could be booing. Maybe just the decision, they didn’t agree with it. But, it just, it bothered me.”

Yup. Hard to disagree with that. Even if you thought Masvidal won the fight, lashing out at Iaquinta makes zero sense. The New York fighter went on to add that what really set him off was apparently “two kids”, who he saw giving him the finger as he began his interview.

All this aside, it will be interesting to see where this puts Iaquinta rankings wise and who he fights next. Currently he’s siting at #15.

UFC FN 63 was hosted by the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
