Ronda Rousey-Bethe Correia Scrap Planned For UFC 190 According to Reports

Bethe Correia has been putting in some overtime trying to get a scrap with Ronda Rousey and it looks like it’s paid off.

The Brazilian outlet Tatame recently reported that the UFC is strongly considering having Correia fight Rousey at UFC 190 on August 1st, and both Globo’s Combate and MMA Fighting.com have confirmed that the bout is targeted for the event.  UFC 190 is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As you probably know, Correia has been calling out Rousey and then some, and the champ has repeatedly said she’s down for the fight. “Rowdy” has also said she’s more than willing to head to face Correia in her native Brazil, and it looks like that’s going to be the case.

Correia (9-0) is coming off back-to-back stoppage wins over Shanya Bazler and Jessamyn Duke, who were part of Rousey’s “Four Horsewomen”. So, the “Pitbull” has used that fact quite effectively in recent weeks to campaign for a title shot. Case in point, not long ago the 31 year-old relayed in an interview with MMA Fighting.com:

“I beat her little friends in the United States, one of them in her hometown, so it’s a chance for Ronda to come try to avenge her losses,” the 9-0 fighter said, while referring to Duke and Baszler. “Ronda got pissed that I beat them in front of her. I hope Ronda was a good friend, that she supported her friends when they lost to me, because she will need a shoulder to cry on after I beat her.”

While the UFC hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the bout, the match-up makes sense. Rousey has beaten the top five ranked 135’ers already, and although Jessica Eye is ranked #6, there’s clearly an interesting storyline here with the #7 positioned Correia. In addition, it’s a bout the UFC can use to move tickets in Brazil.

Since Rousey is taking a bit of break to film another flick, some folks thought the UFC might have Correia fight Eye in a title shot eliminator. Of course, Cris “Cyborg” is also in the mix, but she’s booked to fight at Invicta FC 13 on July 10th, and has yet to make a move to 135.

Rousey (11-0) is coming off a jaw dropping, 14 second submission victory over Cat Zingano at UFC 184 last month.
