UFC 185: Main Event Play-By-Play

Anthony Pettis

All of the bouts have been completed at UFC 185, except for the headliner, which will see lightweight champ Anthony Pettis battle Rafael dos Anjos.

Here’s hoping its a memorable bout.

Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael dos Anjos 

Pettis wings a head kick to begin the fight but it’s blocked. The champ fires another. Dos Anjos is moving forward firing hard shots. Dos Anjos tags Pettis with a big left. The challenger fires off a kick and is really pressuring Pettis. Another hard kick from dos Anjos but Pettis counters. Wow. Dos Anjos plants another kick to the body. Pettis counters nicely with a right but takes a hard punch to the body. Dos Anjos is still moving forward. Both men are throwing hard shots. Another body kick from dos Anjos. Pettis lands a nice right but the challenger responds. Dos Anjos blasts in with a double leg and gets the takedown. Nicely done. Dos Anjos fires a few punches from above, Pettis gets up and the round ends. Very solid start for dos Anjos.

Round 2: The right eye of Pettis is swelling up. Dos Anjos throws another body kick. Pettis with a nice jab. Dos Anjos chucks a big left and pushes Pettis to the cage. The challenger briefly looks for a takedown. Pettis is cut. Dos Anjos takes a hard kick to the body but is still winging hard shots. Dos Anjos comes in with an elbow and gets the takedown. Dos Anjos is working from within the guard of the champ. Pettis is looking for subs but dos Anjos is defending and firing down shots. Pettis is bloodied up. Dos Anjos plants a hard elbow. Wow. This round is all dos Anjos. Dos Anjos with more punishing shots from above. Round ends.

Round 3: Dos Anjos begins the round with a kick to the leg. Pettis counters with a nice right. Dos Anjos cracks Pettis with a hard left but takes an eye poke. Pettis fires a head kick but takes a counter left. Pettis fires an uppercut and then absorbs a leg kick. Dos Anjos shoots in and gets the takedown again. Pettis eats an elbow. Pettis is looking for submissions but dos Anjos postures up. Pettis rolls out and gets back to his feet. Dos Anjos knees the legs of Pettis. The two break and Pettis launches a head kick that is blocked. Dos Anjos blasts in and gets another takedown. The champ gets back up but is swept to the mat again. Dos Anjos moves to the back of Pettis and starts raining down shots. Round ends. Another round for the challenger.

Round 4: Pettis tries a front kick but it misses. Dos Anjos fires another body kick. Pettis lands a nice uppercut. Dos Anjos is moving forward and lands a left hand to Pettis. The champ fires back a cracking body kick. Dos Anjos wings a left hand and starts looking for a takedown. He gets it. Crazy. Pettis almost swept dos Anjos but can’t. Now dos Anjos is in sidemount and is hunting for a Kimura. Pettis defends nicely but is still on the bottom. Now dos Anjos take the champ’s back. Dos Anjos loses position and Pettis briefly takes the challenger down. Dos Anjos trips Pettis to the mat. Dos Anjos fires a head kick as Pettis gets back up. Round ends. Pettis needs a stoppage to defend the title.

Round 5: Pettis could be heard saying he can’t see out of his right eye. The champ attempts a flying knee but it misses. Dos Anjos is still moving forward. Both men chuck hard body kicks. Dos Anjos shoots in and gets it once more. Dos Anjos is in sidemount. Pettis attempts to buck up and out but can’t. Now the champion does. Dos Anjos continues to pick away at champ’s legs with kicks. Dos Anjos shoots in and once again, he takes “Showtime” to the mat. Pettis is hunting for a Kimura but dos Anjos gets his arm out. Now the challenger takes the back of Pettis. Wow. Dos Anjos is going to win the lightweight title. Round ends. What an unbelievable performance by dos Anjos. Incredible.
